timing probs and vtec probs
ok heres the deal me and b16_ef were doing some work on my car. the timing is off and i keep on gettin TDC light. so we set the timing exact as we could.but TDC light is still on and on top of all this vtec does not work but there is no light for it. the car runs fine its drivable, there is no bogging or anything. jus no power. so my question is if TDC is on does that make vtec not work? and what else can i do to make the TDC go away? thansk in advance
also another quick question. when we frist started today vtec did work BUT it was really really quiet. which is not normal for my car cuz vtec is really really loud on mine. and when vtec kicked in nothing happend no kick or anything just a faint sound. any idea's on this?

everything is lined up perfectly as far as i kno. and about the vtec not working with a ced? ive had ced's before and vtec has worked fine. hmm.
have you checked it out yourself. wat do you mean when you say as far as you know? check it out. i have had my cam not lined up when i crank the motor to TDC. wat CEL's have you had and vtec still worked? were they anything related to VTEC. if not then VTEC will still work.

Make sure that when your cam(s) are at TDC, that the crank is also. The key-way slot should be facing straight up and the arrow on the sprocket pointing to the arrow on the block. You have PM also BTW

well made sure the crank was aligned with the cams. but whats the "key way slot"?? the arrows on the cams were pointed up and the two little dash marks on the cams were lined up along with the crank. so im prety sure the timing was dead on. unless im missing something here? thanks for all the help so far emerica!
the key-way slot is the slot on your crank for the key-way, which fits in that hole and the slot on your crank pulley! You have PM again...sounds like head gasket bad too

I have yet to ride in a single VTEC car, whether it be your run of the mill Civic SI or straight drag strip hatchback that has a "vtec kickin feel". You don't feel it at all because all you're feeling is your top end pulling. If your car goes from slow to fast once you hit VTEC, you're living in fantasy land and are a ******* idiot.
