Default 97 dx coupe noisey clutch

OK i have a 97 dx couple that makes an odd noise when cold. when you release the clutch with the car in neutral it makes a whirring sound. once the car is warmed up this goes away. i believe i have a kwmt5 tranny. 194k
i was going to do a clutch and bearings and fly wheel as i'm not sure of the mileage on the current set. i got the car with 145k on it put the last 49k on myself so i figured it was do. besides the noise there are no other issues with the clutch or tranny. changed the tranny fluid about 4 months ago fluid was not bad looking.

i'd appreciate suggestions.

thanks!

Agreed. Mine had this problem, and I drove it like that for quite some time without addressing it, it won't damage anything, but it'll go eventually. May as well just buy a clutch kit, sounds like you're on the right track.

I have the same issue. But what's even stranger and I can't figure out is why, when my shifter is in neutral I don't hear any noise. anytime i move it, whether it's far right or far left before selecting a gear, I keep hearing a very faint (fshhh...) sound. Any idea's???

ok so i've ordered:
  1. EXEDY 08022 OEM Replacement Clutch Kit
  2. Timken 102CC Pilot Bearing
  3. Prothane 8-504 Red Left Upper Engine Mount Insert Kit
  4. Prothane 8-505 Red Right Upper Transmission Mount Insert Kit
  5. Timken 614122 Clutch Release Bearing
  6. ACDelco 388025 Flywheel Assembly

anything else i should consider. this is not an upgrade for performance, but rather my daily driver that does over 1k a week in mileage.

thanks again for the advice.

Noise with foot off clutch pedal is generally input shaft. Noise with foot on clutch pedal is generally throwout bearing. Input shaft bearing replacement requires a full overhaul minus gearsets.
