Vibration at highway speeds
My wife's trusty 92 Integra (1.8L) with a half million kilometres on the clock has a vibration above 100 kph or so. It becomes quite pronounced going uphill and lessons considerably (almost disappearing) going downhill. Taking curves will also lesson vibration. Wheels have been balanced but it does the same with winter tires too (on different rims). Car has new everything in the front end and has been aligned by a few different shops. I rarely drive the car so haven't worried about it and she doesn't seem to mind(?!) Due to a family health problem I'm now burning up the highway several times a week to lend a hand and want to fix this as I just can't stand it.
1) It was suggested to me that worn-perished engine mounts could cause this.
2) I'm thinking that it's a drive axle problem despite the fact that both axles seem fine when
tugging-twisting to check for worn bearings.
Thanks for any suggestions,
Bob

Lessee... 500,000km is about 310,000 miles. I've got you beat by 79,000, with my 389,000 miles.
As for your vibration, it seems to be common on high-mileage Integras; I, too, have that issue.
If you're certain it's not the inner CV joints, then the problem is likely to be worn bearings in the transmission, or a worn bearing in the jack shaft. It's annoying but not worth fixing, and the car will run forever with it.

Thanks for your reply RealTegger. I'll check the CV joints CAREFULLY on the weekend. It's a relief to hear that this is a known problem. I find it quite disconcerting and would love to fix it. Alas, the constant battle with rust (I'm on the Canadian east coast) will probably force me to replace her in a year or two. Despite pumping her full of Rust-Check every fall I'm starting to fall behind with the battle.
Thanks again,
Bob
