what turbo should i get??
ok as of now i have a 00 b16 swap in my 93 lx. it has 9.2:1 Supertech pistons, Eagle rods, ACL race bearings in the bottom end. The top end has Skunk 2 dual valve springs, GSR cams and ARP head studs. Stock intake mani and a obx 70mm TB. I have 780cc precision injectors and am running a Gerrett T3T04E 57 trim turbo. (.50ar compressor housing, .63ar hot side, compressor wheel is 56mm inducer and 75mm exducer) on 19-20psi. Street tuned by me. It goes really good but Im looking to make more power. Ive been looking into the Holset HxX35 but not sure how it will work out. my plan is to be somewhere between 20-25psi on the next turbo and would like to pull 500+ hp outa it. any opinions on the hx35 on my setup or what turbo would get me around there. like what AR sizes and stuff like that?
Thanks
Thanks
Lil expensive lol. Might save for one over the winter but i really was wondering about the HX35. How will that work out on my b16. Also was wondering about a T70. But then it comes down to what size exhaust housing.
HX35 is no different (and even smaller) than your 57 trim. A T70 is too big, and an ebay cheap junk.
What is your budget? what are you trying to do here? get specific.. c'mon.

Well im not a turbo expert at all thats why im trying to figure out what turbo to get. Im also not sure how my turbo is bigger then a hx35. The hx35 that im looking at is masive compaired to my turbo. Way bigger exhaust housing and compressor housing. Im not sure on what size the turbine is but i know the compressor inducer is about the same size as what i have but the exducer is bigger. Ive read on random sites online that they make massive power but dont hit full boost till about 5k and they dont like to be ran at any less then 15psi. N like i said i would like to get to 500hp but i need to know what size or what turbo i should get because im not sure and dont wanna wastw money on a turbo that wont work out well on my motor. I dont think my turbo will make that much power?
Ive also been thinking about the 6262 but there is so many options with exhaust housings and stuff like that. I guess most turbos are like that.

well i don't wanna go super cheap but i do have kids so i cant spend tons of money if you know what i mean. does anyone know the exhaust ar on the hx35 or even the hy35? someone told me that the hy35 has a exhaust housing similar to a .48ar witch seems to small to make 500hp but not sure if that's even true.
The HY35 and HX35/40 are the better options, but at least a 10cm housing to 12cm housing for 500whp +. But my question is why the OP is only looking at Holsets. (Because they are inexpensive compared to others, perhaps?)
What's the deal here? tell us more what your purpose here besides "500+ hp"
ok the reason that i have been thinking about the hx35 is one of my buddies is into Saab's and he bought one but it didn't have a nipple on the compressor housing for the wasetgate. i work in a machine shop and have access to it when ever i want so i machined him one and tapped the housing and put it in. so since i had it in my possession Ive been interested in them. Im also one who likes to do things myself if i can since Ive been a mechanic/machinist for 12 years. also like i said i am on a budget so the cheaper i can do it without having crap parts the better. the other reason may sound stupid but ive raced a few bikes lately and the last one was a 2002ish ninja ZX9 and i pulled 4 cars. now i think that's pretty good but my dad who is a muscle car guy and all so has a gsxr1000 always gives me crap about my 4cyl's and says he will beat me at the local strip... he also doesn't believe that i beat that zx9. Now i know a gsxr1000 will beat me right now but i just wanna prove him wrong. might sound dumb but i guess its a pride thing idk. now i still want it to be street legal like it is now but i will be putting a cage in it soon. i still want it to be a fun car to drive but i want more power. i have the motor building and tuning experience but just dont know what would be a good turbo for this but not brake the bank. i can spend up to 800 but id like not to spend that much.
as of right now i have a t3 cast mani because the roads around hear are **** in some places and i didn't want to deal with cracking. i plan to upgrade the mani over the winter when i put a ls bottom end together. I also have a 38mm tial wastegate, 3" down pipe and 3" exhaust. maybe 500 isnt reasonable on the b16 but id like to get as much as i can outa it this season before i build the ls bottom end. who knows i might end up even being happy with the b16 bottom end if i can get somewhere around that power. im not trying to get crap talked on just want some good info since i cant seem to find a straight answer. and trust me i search before i start a post. just havent had any luck with searching.
hopefully this helps you guys answer me but if you need more info just ask the questions you need to help me out. thanks

one of the biggest things is i don't know if i should go with a .82/ar or a .63/ar like i have. it would be nice to b able to stay with the 5 bolt pattern but i can change it since i can weld, have access to a welder and can machine the flange myself.
After reading all that ^^
no matter what turbo you choose, youll need to build the block for 500hp. The B16 in stock form has seen 300-350. same with the LS block.
So, in my opinion, whatever route you choose, build and sleeve your block first, then look to your snail.

No offense dude but you didn't beat a zx9. You might have beat a terrible rider on a zx9 but that bike does mid to high 10s stock.
No $1000 turbo is going to have you faster then a GSXR1000. That bike did 10.1 1/4s stock 11 years ago.
You really need to have better(realistic) goals then trying to prove some dude (who is right) wrong because of his smack talk. I have had a turbo honda since 99. You better get over the trash talk, it isn't going to stop. Not even if you have a baller setup. There will always be someone faster and there will always be some idiot making fun of your car by mockingly asking you about your intake.
Last guy who was clowning me in front of a bunch of his friends when I asked him "Did you walk here, I don't see a rusty el camino in the parking lot". His friends busted out laughing because the guy actually had a rusty el camino that didn't even have an engine in it...
BTW what is a guy smacking you about 4cyl when his suzuki is one? Work on your come backs, you will need them over the years
.
FWIW I suggest a gt or gtx series turbo.

wow this is why honda-tech sucks now. 0-60 no i cant beat his zx9 cuz i spin my *** off. but 60mph in 3rd gear till the end of 5th yes 100% beat him n the kid gives me mad props for it. kids been riding since he was 16 and is 24 now. also is a good rider. not like you can miss gears on a bike and the kid was in it all the way. and yes a gsxr1000 is scarey fast and yes will beat me top end cuz it can do what 180+ but also a 500hp gutted civic will beat it if has traction till it runs outa gear. the guy i want to build this to prove a point to is also my dad like i said n is always busting my ***** for building jap cars as he calls them lol

another thing that pisses me off about this site now is people never read. i clearly stated that i have internals. yes stock sleeves but im only running it for the rest of the summer then putting a ls block together. and ive seen plenty of 500+hp b series with stock sleeves. yes i realize not the safest but idc. i already have the motor together and running strong in my car now and if a sleeve cracks then that will just make me put the ls block together sooner. this car is my have fun car so it is what it is. BTW i will be sleeving the ls block over the winter and be putting a quaife diff in n been thinking about keeping the b16 gears and possibly putting a ls final drive in it since i have it.
Now i wrote all that because someone that knows his sh** with turbos asked me what i wanted to do with it, and that's what i want to do with it. so if i can get replies from people that can actually help me out instead of telling me I'm wrong that would be nice. now im not trying to be a *** but this is what this site has turned into and its frustrating.

If that's the budget, then that's the budget. At least you're not doing with this other kid is here trying to prove something with Ebay garbage as though he's created a revolution of some kind..
Forget the HY35. It takes too much pressure to even do what you think. I'd look at the HX35/40 combination instead with the 10cm housing to make that kind of power for the budget that you're looking for. But be warned. Repairs are expensive, and is better to find another one than to fix it. In addition, you might not find exactly the same model as before if you replace it, so plan for a retune if you grab another.

thanks for your replies. Is the hx35/40 the actual turbo name? Or is it a combo id have to put together? Or is it just a different hx35? if that makes sense lol I know there is a hx35 and a hx35wh1c. and as far as i know the wh1c has a smaller exhaust housing. the one i worked on for a friend was the wh1c. The problem im running into is its a 1.6L. i know it is possible to make this power outa this motor but i don't want to have a turbo that is to big for the displacement or to small to make the power i want. biggest thing is i don't want to wast money which im sure everyone can understand.

I was just trying to get you to have better goals. Even you said your current ones sounded stupid. No need to get offended but I can tell you that guy isn't a good rider, is really fat, or his bike is messed up.
Get a traction bar, limited slip, and some mickey thompson et streets. You won't have anywhere close to the traction issues anymore. I am able to put around 400hp down in 2nd gear.

well the kids not fat. If I had to guess hes around 180lbs and grew up racing dirt bikes and once he was old enough to get a bike he did. the kids a good rider. he also has money. well his mommy and daddy do so trust me theres nothing wrong with his bike. looks and runs like new. Im running 20psi on a 57 trim T3T04E garrett turbo with a good tune. trust me it gets outa its own way quick. traction is a issue right now but wont be next summer. yes my goals may sound stupid to most people but when you live in NH there isnt much to do other then build cars. thats what im know for around here. i love doing it and i like to get as much as i can outa what i have without spending gobs of money. thats all this post was about. Making good power on a budget.

) is going to be tough. 1.6 litre and 500whp are going to be laggy, so get over that now. The HX35/40 is already assembled, there's nothing you need to do to complete that combination.
ok awesome. thats what i was hoping you would say about that turbo. and im kinda expecting it to b laggy. but that will also give me some time to get moving before it spins. i know its kinda a win lose situation. i read somewhere on here that a regular hx35 didn't hit full boos till 5k but even stock b16's dont make power till vtec so thats fine. any suggestions on where to buy one? ive looked on ebay but the only one i found was $1200.
2old4this
yeah thats why i bought it. i had the same turbo on my built dohc zc back in the day and loved it.
