stopped burning oil??????
ok when i first got my car it burnt about a quart of oil every 3000 miles. it had 107k when i bought it. At 116k, right before school started i did a little tune up. i got a skunk 2 intake manifold, im gasket, oil change, sparkplugs, and fpr. i cleaned everything up with carb cleaner: injectors, throttle body, and intake ports. since doing that i havent burnt any oil. its been 2300 miles and my oil is golden brown and up the the second dot. it now has 118k i was just wondering what could have happened so that i stopped burning oil?
there wasnt any oil on my garage floor

What I am trying to say is there is no direct correlation between the colour of the oil when you have a burning issue (not talking about what comes out of the exhaust pipe, btw). So, no, just because it's black doesn't mean it's burning oil.

Actually, it usually does turn black if you have piston ring blow by. Mine turns black within a day or two. Why/how your problem was fixed with what you did I don't know though.
actually, oil turns black regardless of what is going on with your engine. it can be two days off of the ship from japan and after a few days driving the oil will be black.
Of course oil turns black every time you change it. I think we'd all agree it shouldn't be a cloudy black after less than 300 miles of typical driving though. Mine is and what do you know I have a compression loss caused by worn piston rings. This does not typically occur with healthy piston rings.

You put your bet on whatever you like, but when you're watching smoke roll off your exhaust on acceleration, losing oil quickly, and watch ANY brand/weight of oil you put in your engine turn black within a few hundred miles, I think you'll find you have worn rings.
You might want to run some of these high mileage oil like Valvoline Maxlife or Pennzoil High Mileage. They have seal conditioners in them that can help reduce leaks and seal seals....
Been there done that. Makes 0 difference. Matter fact Max Life 10-40 is in there now. The only thing that's going to change this situation is new rings.
So you contend that the presence of blow-by has no effect whatsoever on oil color? That the fact that my oil turns black almost immediately now whereas it didn't before I started losing compression is just a coincidence? There's mountains of evidence stacked up against you.
