Why do you think the ELD is bad?

Have you pulled the CEL code?

Have you cleaned and tightened all engine ground wires and the battery connectors?

When you turn the key from off to ON(II) (engine off), does the charging system warning light (battery symbol) in the cluster turn on and stay on?

there is no battery light, only check engine light. i should clarify the engine light doesnt flash on and off it just flickers.... also my speedometer works only 30% of the time, i replaced the speed sensor, that did nothing.

If fuse 15 blows again, click the Fuse 15 TSB in my signature.

You know I got a question that is related to this... I recently did a lot of electrical overhauling on my 97 EX coupe (CIVIC) Replaced ELD failure, Alternator twice (first time it was defective) battery, and my Speedo. Lol a lot of crap! But one thing thats been randomly happening to the car is randomly the charge system warning light (battery light) randomly flicks on and off at random points in time... Iv'e checked my grounds for resistance and corrosion... The battery static voltage is all right when the car is running. Performance wise everything is driving fine but it keeps flickering at random points in time... It wouldnt be ELD related would it? I checked for that wire scraping thats a common issue on these cars and didnt see bare wire. Any ideas from some of you vets? The alternator was replaced a few months ago and is charging accordingly in voltage tests so surely it couldnt have failed. Any words of wisdom?

This^ is generally caused by a bad alternator. But first check that all the mounting/bracket bolts and the alternator belt are nice and tight.

Hey everybody. Quick update. I just wanted to throw a tip out there to anyone diagnosing the ELD issue on their sixth gen civic. After solving this problem over the past summer it concludes to be a matter of a few things. Replacing the ELD is a vital start if you know it has not been replaced yet on your civic. It's cheap and rules it out if you are getting these electronic issues. Battery and alternator as well as the wire rubbing issue that was infamous on these cars are major keys to check. Once all inspected you wanna check out the fuses and see which are popped. The ELD can cause a few too. It's funny right as mine failed my odometer and speedo happened to fail too. Go figure. My cruise control stopped working too and after further inspection after insuring I had no wire rub issue, ELD replaced and no battery issues I even replaced the alternator, it turns out the ELD failure popped a fuse that relates to that electronic circuit... I think I confused more than helped sorry =/ I just wanted to let anybody know that's getting these issues before replacing components replace the ELD and check for rubbing wires, and popped fuses before replacing other components!

BTW shout out to RonJ@HT for providing great info!

Thank you THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

Car sitting for a week waiting to go get pounded by a mechanic, and some guy on a forum says the answer for free. I replace blown Fuse 15 and for a hour nothing has happened and car runs fine. I also had two oxygen sensor codes along with p1298. I'm clearing the codes to see if they come back.

Again, thank you so much man. Do you have a paypal account?
