Default 86 CRX 1st gen b18c1 swap overheating

Hey everyone , I have a 1986 crx with a b18c1 swap in it. it was running fine for a while and then the temp started to creep up on me. ikt never gets all the way hot so i started with the fan, it wasnt coming on with the ac ..or at all.. so i jumped it and it works. fabbed up a constant on to the fan until i could test the relays but ITS STILL OVERHEATING IN THE SAME MANNER, now the top hose is very hot bottome one pretty warm as well which steers me away from the t-stat.

im totally stumps as to what would make the fan quit working and then still overheat after fan is jumped any help would be greatly appreciated .

ps..THIS FORUM RULES.

GOOGLE BLOWS FOR THIS STUFF.

UPDATE!!!!

Alrighty, i flushed the system and utilized the bleeder valve on the upper rAd hose ( tightened it when it had a continuous flow) and it stayed cold as ***K for a while but i let it idle for a while and it creeped back up on me a little but not nearly as bad as before and now the fan IS kicking on and the AC does work.....this is so strange to me ...are the relays intermittently going out. it DOES take awhile for the fan to kick on when it gets really hot, maybe the t-stst is sticking ? please help !!!!

Is the motor leaky maybe bad head gasket. Or maybe a bad radiator or probably bad rad. Cap

when does it creep up? when driving on the freeway? when idling?
also check your radiator cap, make sure it is good.

Flush out your cooling system. Have had multiple cars that really don't cool as they should after many years, because of calcium and rust build up. Turn the car on and with a buddy pour water into your open system through the radiator until its clear, and that should do that trick. Might make it run cool again. Also buying the flush kit from a part store helps too, but make sure you always have water running from a hose through your radiator while your doing it! Hope this helps.

P.S. B18 in a that light of a CRX sounds quick, have you done a speed run yet? how fast is it?

Its pretty quick ... lots and lots of low end !! And ive flushed the rad and bled the sysyem and it ran pretty cold for awhile, then gradually creeped up at idle. (i fabbed water hose pressure coupling and blew it out for a good 25 min ) still creeps up at idle. how do you test a rad cap, and whats the best way to go about testing the headgasket, i googled this and got mixed answers and am unsure because of the swap...thanks everyone btw!

Are you running a overflow tank? And if you were to check coolant does the radiator have pressure?

its fine for awhile , then runs hot and i keep having to bleed the valve on the motor , its only running hot at idle now. bleed fill with coolant and its fine for a while. then same thing. im leaving the heat on full blast when i bleed and filling nonstop. it just keeps creeping up at idle and today it blew tons of coolant out while at a stop....HELP !!!!!!!

Yeah sounds like a bad radiator/rad cap or/and bad hoses also remove your thermostat see if that helps you run cooler.

It's probably your head gasket. I was under the impression that the B18 blowing exhaust into the cooling system was kinda common as far as failures go.

Ok haven't done the leak Down yet and still only overheating at idle. This is confusing me because at higher rpns it would overheat faster if it was blow head gasket? I drive the **** out it : no overheat...I go to Starbucks... overheard in the drive-thru. Help me..

the fan is good and kicks on sometimes it seems like it hesitates to come on but this happens with ac on so fan is on. only at idle.. as soon as i pick up speed it gets cold.. and yes water pump isnt that old.

Clogged radiator, it may not be allowing the coolant to reach the therno switch that operates the fan.

Let us know what you find with the leak down test? I have a had a similar issue and mine was a bad thermostat, which was new. Replaced and problem went away. Would always stay good when driving but then would creep up at idle or coasting down hill.
