i have a 99 ex civic. runs kinda choppy sometime. jerky acceloration at times. no check engine light. anyone know what this might be?

 

do you know the history of maintenance done to the car? I'd start with doing a tune up and cleaning various parts like the IACV, FITV (which I'm assuming in your case doesn't apply unless you have a swap that you forgot to mention), throttle body in general.

 

I'd check timing.
And be sure your CEL works.
