Default 96 civic 1.6 no start

did some tests without obdII , replaced main relay, new fuel filter and had 40psi, spark at the plugs checked grounds, new throttle body 2 years ago, ran great. How do I get codes without obd II? What else should I try.It started once after a long cranck, ran rough then smoothed out, I thought it was air in the filter. Next day no start, also checked ignition, ohm`d out ok...

Air in the filter? Once you have checked the codes let us know what they are.

went out a got and obdII, o well. anyway...got 3 codes,, P113, 1298 and 420, last 2 being emissions. I followed directions to reset ECM/PCM fuse 7-5 back up checked again and got zero codes tries to start and sputters trying to start... I smell gas thats all. Am I looking for a broken wire some where else ?

Check for bright white spark. See my signature.

Check the mechanical timing. See FAQs sticky.
