Used Japanese engine swap
Took my 98 Accord to the Honda dealer because coolant kept disappearing. 240,000k on the engine. Diagnosis came back that the engine was terminal, (blown head gasket, leaks, water pump, etc shot).
However, car was garaged it's whole life and in great shape so I took a chance and had a local shop that imports the used engines from Japan do a swap. Total cost with new timing belt, water pump was $1396 out the door. Took five days and car runs tons better. Came with 90 day/ 3,000 mile warranty.
Shop was ACE Japanese engines in Santa Ana, we shall see.
