I have a 1997 Civic DX Hatchback. The car squeaks in the front left from time to time. its definitely a springy like noise. i went to the mechanic and they said i need new shocks. however when i turn left the steering wheel doesn't turn back well on its own, but it does when i turn right. I had an alignment that went bad real quick and so i had to go back to the shop for another. the mechanic said the suspension is causing the steering wheel to not turn back on its own. also the steering wheel is pitched left.

basically, is the shock really making my car go left? or could it be something else?

 

bad tie rod ball joint or lower ball joint.

your shocks could be bad too. hell a lot of other things could be bad with the way you described things. but squeaky noises are usually balljoints in need of replacement.

and you ought to find another shop that can give better diagnosis.

 

the guy at midas said the shock isnt sitting correctly. he said he would charge 135 to fix it. im not sure if i would do that, or I might just get new shocks altogether because the car is old. either way, the springy sound is still there.

also there was too much power steering fluid, drained some of it and now the steering is alright.
