How do you check to see if a Motor is "legit"?
I have been personally studying a few shops local to me and am suspecting alot of these to be stolen.
Reasons why Im suspecting is because:
1) I have a family member wanting to buy one but is concerned of its authenticity
2) The motors have scratches on them as if it was in a hurry to be taken out
3) The price is like no other.
I have a few block numbers. I called the local Police Department but they said they have to visit the motors and actually run them "in person". Im not really TOO keen of this because if the motors are legit, Id be stepping on their toes.
Is there ANY other possibility to check authenticity? Thanks in advance.

Got any friends in law enforcement? maybe they can run a few numbers for you.
also, post some VIN #s here...anyone here that had an ITR or other car stolen may recognize it.

you can try running a carfax record on them if you have the vins. if the cars come up as clean titles or salvage by accident then they are probably clean.
migs, let me know if you need some reports done.

I havent seen any B18C5s go by. Most of these are GSRs'. I posted in this forum because it seems most of you ITR guys are cautious of this happening anyway.
There are NO VIN #'s on these blocks. All I have are block numbers.

The number directly under the "B18C5" stamping will cross-reference with the VIN of the car it came out of if you have a cop friend that can run em for you, missing VIN plates on the block and tranny are a big no-no if the engine swap is 96+ and USDM.
hey bgod. i have 2 vins to run if u can help me. they are both my cars, i just wanna see what the titles are like. they both are theft recovery.
lemme know
thanx

migs, if it's a usdm motor and 96-up it should have a vin tag. if there is none, chances are it's stolen.
if they're jdm motors, don't worry about it. 94-95 gsr's, taking a chance unless you can run that block number some how.
but usually, when it's too cheap, it's too good to be true.
