Air Conditioning sometimes work sometimes does not
my wifes 2007 civic has this same problem its been to the dealer 4 times in the last 2 weeks they said it was low on freon first which was bs since i charged it the day before, but i was like maybe well 2 days later in the hot sun crank it up no ac, back to dealer "no problems" then same thing again "no problems" and then 2 days later back again to them now they are saying the compressor clutch and all that is bad I was like yeah i dont think so 900 dollar fix, Im going to try the high pressure switch and relays and see what happens anyone have any thoughts?
If the compressor kicks on and off then maybe you overfill Freon in your wife's car. The "real" way to fill Freon into a vehicle is to completely empty out the old Freon but that is just my and Scotty Kilmer's opinion. Try looking Scotty Kilmer up on Youtube. You can learn a lot from him.
They don't use freon in cars anymore... it is environmentally unsound. HFC-134a is the OEM refrigerant used in Honda vehicles.
I work at honda and what we do everytime is evacuate and recharge the system to make sure the right amount is in and add leak dye to the system. then we run the car to see if the ac works. if something is not working then we goahead and find out what. on these civics we usually see a bad compressor. its very common on this body style civic so the dealer may be right.
I used my guages to fill the freon with 134a it was right, they just filled it again there was no leak they just assumed it was low and charged it again. The thing is when it sits in the sun all day it wont blow cold air for a while but if its in the shade or not really hot outside its normally fine. I was thinking maybe the little temp sensor thing that kicks off the compressor when it gets hot might be going bad, i cant remember the name of the part. What are your opinions on that?

i know this sounds like a dumb question but did you test the output air from the vents with a thermometer. because if your sitting in the sun the ac isnt going to be really cold. you more so need to be driving the car. and my opinions on the sensor are i doubt its that. doesnt mean its not possible i have just never seen any ac problems that werent either the compressor or a broken/leaking line
compressor and clutchs go out on this thing all the time. I'm not a fix a piece of it kinda guy though if the compressor is getting the signal to engage the clutch and it doesn't then I replace the whole unit the fact that there saying to keep the compressor and just replace the clutch and coil is weird to me cuz either they are losing out and charging you labor to replace the unit and there willing to replace the clutch and coil or it's pointless cuz a reman a/c compressor plus labor is about the same as a clutch and coil plus the extra labor or having to rebuild it basicly all you have to do is since you say you know the freon is full next time it isn' working unplug the compressor and put a test light to it if it lights up and the compressor won't turn on you need a new compressor
Its most likely a compressor coil, most shops replace the clutch because the clutch also has to be removed. Did you check the clutch gap?
my air conditioning went hot....had it checked out...all connections fine..system is not leaking..fully charged..compressor seems fine..fly wheel turns freely. My mechanic said it is probably the computer head...wants me to take it to a dealer to check it out. sounds expensive.. anybdy had the same problem
I put a thermometer in the vent when it stops working the air blowing out is between 70 to 80.
It works flawlessly if its not super hot, havent had time to check the other stuff. I did let another guy look atit he said there wasnt anything wrong with it, and said that its just the heat that makes it stop working, he is an ac specialist so Im still lost
