Automatic Transmission Issue
Hello everyone, i have a 1992 Honda Accord, with the H23A3 engine and 4 speed automatic transmission.
The issue im having is that when i go change between Park, Drive and Reverse, i feel a somewhat strong push or jerk.
This only happens when the engine and transmission are both hot.
Doesn't happen when the engine is cold.
Havent driven another Accord, so i cant compare, but the gear shifts (1-2-3-4) feel somewhat rough too, although absolutely no slipping or hesitation.
Theres no idle vibration when the engine is warm, only a slight steering wheel vibration on the first 2 or 3 minutes from starting, which goes away suddenly.(on Drive, none on N or P)
Transmission fluid has been changed every 30.000 miles and the car now has 80.000 miles. Last fluid change was 1000 miles ago. The car has been in the family since new, so maintenance is all on record.
ATF fluid used is noted as "ATF plus 4" on service record.
Any help is welcome!

Well you should be using Honda ATF fluid only and yes it would be good to pull the solenoid and clean them with brake clean just make sure you let it dry 100%.. The fluid is prob most of your problem I think +4 is a Chrysler ATF.
Well, reporting back after reading all of your comments. THANKS!
Took the car to the shop, changed ATF to a Honda DW-1, algo cleaned both transmission solenoids.
The issue with the pounding when changing from D to R, etc, is completely gone, so thats a real relief.
Also, normal shifting (1-2-3-4) is alot smoother.
Actually the car feels very different to drive, seems to be coasting at lower RPM's

I have a 96 Accord EX Wagon, and I have noticed that the shift from 3rd gear to overdrive is a bit late, and sometimes you have let off of the gas pedal for it to shift. Any ideas? I was told that the tranny was worked on by the prior owner. Would the non-Honda ATF be an issue, or a solenoid?

Well, based on my experience detailed in this post, i would change that ATF for a genuine Honda ATF and give those two solenoids (Shift Solenoid and Lock Out Solenoid) a good cleaning.
Its not an overly expensive job and it might well solve your issue, nothing to lose IMHO.

Remove and clean #15 and #16.
You will need to replace the O-ring #24 otherwise the transmission will leak if you attempt to reuse the old O rings.
91309-PX4-003 - O-RING (16X2.1) (NOK) $1.88
To remove the sensors you will have to unbolt #30 which is a 10mm head. Rotate the sensor slightly to break free, and pull out. Clean, install new O ring, install sensor.
