Default '03 Accord - Nav works, climate too, but stereo is 100% dead

I just bought a used 2003 Accord 4-cyl with Nav for a great deal because the stereo is totally dead.

Now of course, Honda dealership quoted an astronomical amount for replacement, but i also know that these head units have had problems and some are fixable.

The units touch screen controls work flawlessly, as does the AC/climate and Nav portion.

There is zero response to power, modes, etc. for anything radio/cd related.

I've read about possibly pulling the unit out and testing the speaker wires, but it could also be a part on the logic board thats fried? Looking for one of two things from all the experienced owners here:

1) can the unit be fixed? If so, how?

2) If it can't be repaired, should i replace with an OEM unit, or go with something aftermarket? If aftermarket, whats out there?

Thanks in advance for any help on this, i'm excited to be part of this great community!
