starting problems on a 98 gsr..
Recently my car has been having weak starts...it takes a while to fire up...is this just a spark plug problem or battery problem?...and today when i started it...it would crank for a few seconds til it actually started...then when it fired up...it almost seemed like the engine was going to stall...the rpms dropped then went back up...the plugs dont look too bad...but probably need to be changed..and I had plenty of fuel..and it was a rather cool day..not too cold....any ideas on what could be up?
about 62000 miles or so...or 102k km....so i know the plugs have to be changed....and I only get these problems once in a while..very randomly...otherwise it starts fine...like most hondas!!....today was the only time it did the weird rpm idle....so ill get it checked...im still under warranty....any other insights??
I have the same problem...happens spontaneously too. I'm surprised it's happening to your car with it being much newer than mine. I have had this problem for almost 2 years already. I've tried lots of things. I'm starting to think the problem is from clogged fuel injectors since it's the only thing I haven't done any maintenance to. Then again, I get GREAT gas mileage. I'm getting 330 miles to a full tank with liberal amounts of high RPM driving.
Another thing it can be is a bad vacuum line.
Let me know if you find the problem.

I have a 98 gsr with the exact same symptoms. Usually starts within a turn or two. It's usually when I turn it off and restart it after less than 15-20 minutes that it has problems. Like, at the gas station.
I just figured I am getting close to needing a new battery. Aren't stock batteries only expected to last 5-6 years? I live in Wisconsin, so I am sure our cold winters don't help either.

Samhe here... I got a 98 gs-r and very similiar problems. Battery is ok but still might replace it, kinda old plus looking for a stronger battery. Might be fuel filter? Not sure but i was thinking that maybe that earth ground kit might help... Suppossetly, you get better idle, and better performance. still researching it though.
Doesn't bother me too much.. By the way I do have a new motor with only about 20k on it and it's still there. ahhaha.. I just think it's that small battery. Not enuff cranking power. More power
