i have a '95 civic ex EH9 with the original d16z6 engine in it,no aftermarket stuff...anyway..i was speeding up on the highway to pass someone and as i was about to shift into 5th @ 4000rmp it cut off and i drifted to the side of the road...attempted to start but nothing...the starter spins but doesnt turn over. it spins kind of high when trying to start...help? im kind of new to hondas

 

It probably won't resolve your non-start issue, but pull the starter and bench test it. The gear should rapidly shoot out and spin up at the same time. If it's spinning high, it sounds like it isn't shooting out.

As for your car cutting off, when was your last full tune-up? Pull your plugs, and make sure you're getting bright blue/white spark at all four.

 

ive never had a problem with my starter,so im almost positive it isnt that....maybe i slipped my timing belt?

 

Highly doubtful, unless you make a habit of ******* the hell out of your car.

When you try to start the car, can you see the timing belt rotating? Does it look like the motor itself is trying to turn over? The reason I mentioned the starter was because you said it sounded like it was spinning fast. If it's spinning fast, that means it's resistant has been reduced, and the easiest way to do that is if it isn't trying to spin the motor at all. Like I said though, that wouldn't make your car stop in the middle of the road.

Still want to know when your last full tune-up was, and whether or not you're getting a bright white-blue spark from all four plugs. Also, if you really think you may have slipped timing, go rent/buy a timing light, as well as a leak-down tester. Verify your timing, and do a leak-down test. There's a few how-to's on the forums for both.

 

This sounds an awful lot like a broken timing belt.

 

I was really hoping the OP at least opened his hood to look at basic, plainly visible things before posting on the forums.

 

1.check your spark
1.make sure the the belt spins with the cams while cranking.
do that and let us know the results.
