Tried getting a jump

The starter cranks the engine, so it is eliminated.

Does the fuel pump prime?

Is there bright white spark at all 4 spark plugs?

pull the upper timing cover and see if the T belt is still there. Also, I agree with Ron.

The pump does prime
I will check for spark, and for the belt.

I ran out of sunlight yesterday, I'm having my car towed back to my place this morning, I had to leave it at a gas station.

thank you both

Car has been towed home
Timing belt is snapped!
I'm going to visually inspect and report back later, I'll take pictures.

I'll be ordering a new belt and water pump at the very least. any other suggestions while I'm down there?

thanks again,
Dan

yea....probably a new head for the motor if it snapped at 70 mph. You could *possibly* get lucky and it didn't take the head with it, but its more likely it destroyed the head with it.

Ive seen one kid I know pop one at 70 mph, and nothing happened. On the other hand I know about 4 who took the head with them, one guy who popped the belt when it was going 5 mph.

Chance are more likely that you'll need the head, next time change your timing belt every 90k or every 5-6 yrs.

I'm going to replace the belt If the Valves are bent I will go from there.

does this sound like a good plan?

Also I have not been able to take pics due to the lack of tools. I'm going to ride my skateboard to the Advanced Auto and pick that stuff up.

x2, plan sounds good to me.

Sometimes you get lucky with these cars, sometimes they bite you in the ***. Also, while your in there you might want to replace the tensoiner.

Yeah, the crank pulley bolt is a bitch and a half to remove. haveing the crank pulley tool definetly helps. You'll need, oohh a 8ft cheaper pipe.

2 breaker bars if you go with the crank pulley tool.

Finally got the bolt off!

Took the starter off
stuck a makeshift pry bar in the flywheel teeth
used my feet to turn the wrench

congrats....

now the rest of the t belt job is 45 minutes, lol.

16 hours to break the bolt off....45 mins to change the belt. For Timing belts, I have a buddy who works on 18 wheelers. I take it to him, give him a 6 pack, have him snap it loose for me, hand tighten and drive it to my place....then I can remove it without playing with it for 2 days.
Nothing like air tools...especially 1000+ ft lbs in reverse type air tools

The engine will run with bent valves, for a while...

Do a compression check once new belt is on at the very least. Check the valve lash to see if any are way out of spec.

I would hate to have the head of a valve break off in the combustion chamber, bust things up, throw a rod through the block.

Change your t-belts on schedule people or risk disaster.

One good thing about Toyotas, non-interference.

I hit a snag,

two of the bolts that hold the distributor are rounded off.
the 14mm one on bottom and the 12mm adjustment bolt.

^ That.

If the bolt on the distrubtor is being a bitch, I pull the cap off and then you can a normal socket/rachet at the top one. I've rounded my fair share of them off.

my neighbor gave me a ride to harbor freight and picked up an extractor socket set.
I was installing the new water pump when it began to rain. I'd say I'm just over the hill with this job. it's been taking way too long because of tools and experience.
