I have a 97 ex four door that I bought to flip but im just working on some issues before I sell it. I have checked the fuses (fuse 30) and the cluster lights dont work. the rear drive light do not work either. The MPH are messed up as well. Here is a vid of what I got going on.

idk if its the same problem, cuz i have an eg, but my speedo would always go up to 10 when i turn the key to on (II) then the speed is just ahead by 10mph every where i go. all i had to do was take off the needle, turn the key on then put the needle back on to zero (while the car is stationary of course)

i know its not the same car but hopefully this helps!

 

If you jump the red wire to the black wire in the dimmer switch connector, do the lights work?

Is dash 7.5A fuse 15 blown?

 

The fuse is good. checked both posts. and i jumped the solid red wire with the black middle wire and the cluster lights light up and my tail lights work. but speedo still acts up

 

Has the tach stopped bouncing?

 

The RPM tach never bounced, but the MPH tach still bounces

 

Why does the tach twice bounce from 0 to 1500 rpm in your video?

 

That was the car turning on and off, thats the only way I was able to show what the MPH tach was doing. Right when I turn on the ignition (II) it jumps to 20mph then when I start the car it jumps and stays at 20mph then when I turn it off it jumps again and goes back to 0. Sorry for the run on sentince. The RPM work fine like they should.

 

since no cel is on then maybe you should swap out the cluster from another ex civic and it should work

Still looking for answers. I took the car out and it worked fine for 3 minutes til i stopped at a stop sign and the mph tach stopped working again???

 

Now both the speedo and tach don't work?

 

No just the MPH tach still dont work. I took out the cluster today and it would do just what it does on the video when I unplug the harness out of the cluster. So im having the girlfriend little sister (hot) ha ha come over and im going to swap out clusters.

I took out the speed sensor today out of the tranz, so I know it wasnt spinning and the stupid cluster still wasnt working right. Will give an update in an hour.

 

Speedometer = gauge that reads speed of car (mph)
Tachometer = gauge that reads speed of engine (rpm)

There's no MPH tach, which would be a speedometer/tachometer fusion.

 

Its was the cluster! picked one up today and worked perfectly! RonJ you are the man once again! ready for another thread?
