Default LED Cluster Bulbs. I want to update the look of my cluster

I like the layout of the factory Crx Si cluster, but the light is that dull white.

I want to update the look and have them backlit/frontlit whatever you call it with a more pure white.

Can anyone tell me what size and how many bulbs it would take to change all the bulbs that light it up are? I was thinking of orderring a bunch off ebay.

Any help appreciated!

Honestly, it's going to be expensive. Best thing to do is pull your cluster out and look at all of the bulbs...if I remember correctly there are 5 large bulbs, I believe they are 24s and there are like 8-9 little ones plus 2 in the climate control that are 77s...when you look at the cost of replacing these with LEDs you're going to flip. I bought new Sylvania long-life bulbs and painted them red. Now my dash lights match my stereo display. You can even use this special tail light paint to paint a thin sheet of plastic and make a cover for your clock if you want everyhting the same color...obviously you can use whatever color but I didn't do LEDs because it was going to cost a lot.

If you do just a bulb swap, it will look like ****, trust me, well it might be a little better than stock, but it won't be what you really want. And there definitely is no drop in LED for the climate control. I'm sure you're looking for something like this....

All custom, and here is an EF cluster I WAS working on, difficult to capture RED on camera, but this is deep red but looks orange...

gl man.

That looks awesome! How much time went into that and what was the cost? I am guessing you fabricated all of that?

That does look good, but I dont care for anything in the climate control, Im happy with how that is.

Im simply looking for ideas on drop in LED applications with simple twist in bulbs, no solderring.

All I want is pure white light hopefully with no severe hot spots, the dull off white light just kind of pisses me off

Anyone had sucess with LED twist bulbs? How many and what size

How many bulbs total to change the 88-89 style cluster backlight. Are the top bulbs different than the rest?

I just would like to know how many bulbs to buy to change the backlight

If it were me I'd pop my cluster out and look myself before ordering...you don't want to have to try and return the bulbs if someone gives you bad info...shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to pull it, check, and put it back in.

It's going to be pricy but if the light is bothering you that much it may be worth it to you.

I think you need 194 bulb and get the 360 degree so you don't get hotspot
http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...FWLED-xHP5.htm
You can also try ebay for the led for like $1.20 shipped!

Clipsed, that cluster looks sick! Great job

Buying new bulbs will help, but like Clipsed said they won't make too much of a difference. Although when I did my gsr cluster swap, some new bulbs really helped. But the lighting is so much different between our Civics and the Integra.

First to answer the op's question, the problem is the civic cluster takes two 194's and two (iirc) 74's which is a smaller single LED bulb. You just don't get the dispersion of light you need in this cluster with the bulb set up it has. Maybe you'll have better luck, but I was not happy with the end result of pop in and go bulbs inside this cluster. I did however do my Integra cluster which uses four 194's and it looked good. With the civic cluster you will have decent looking speedo/tach and a hot spot for the gas/temp if anything at all.

Time, quite a bit, I think I had 10+ hours between the cluster and climate control, and yes all fabricated with OSRAM white LED's

See my above post, but gl finding a pure white LED, most of the one's from china which are used on the pop and go bulbs are the cheaper blue tinted white LED's which I don't really care for, just personal preference.

Sorry I do not, I was supposed to take pics when I finished up as someone had asked me to do just that, but when I was working on this in the beginning of the year, I moved out so they got packed away.

Thank you! QFT if you know as well, the set up just isn't as good as on the Integra. If he gets a good output I give him kudos, I tried ufcking with it and couldn't get it to look the way I wanted with drop ins.

like i said in the link i sent... pretty sure i used 5 174s and 2 24s. they arent cheap but its totally worth it

i bought the matrix 2 leds and they even have a 3 and a 5 from http://autolumination.com/74.htm... i forget which one.... but they disperse the light perfectly
