Default D16Z1 Roller Rocker VTEC

Never saw this motor before until today. I go to check out my local junk yard and this euro spec civic is there with a D16Z1 motor. VTEC OBD1 Roller Rocker arms (i have only seen these on the Y7) I will try and post up a pic tomorrow if I have time. I am going back tomorrow to take a closer look.

Also there never seen this motor before either. D16Z5. Non-vtec DOHC in a CRX

PICS TO COME

Interested to see pics. Y7s didn't have roller rockers though. D15Z1s and D16Y5s did in north america though.

OK some research revealed that the Z5 is just a version of the ZC motor. as far as I can tell. The Z1 i was corrected about. It is a D15 not 16 like i had originally thought. The intake manifold and TB on that thing was TINY.

The Z5 or ZC as we know it in the US (so i think) doesn't have the rocker arms on a shaft like all b series and other D series that we are familiar with. It uses a pivot joint similar to American v-8s have before they went to OHC's.

It was not the beneficial junk yard jewel like i would have wanted but it was fun learning a new motor if nothing else.

I didn't know the B18B1 was like that. Good info to have.

Yep the B18A, B18B and B20 all have the same head design and rocker arms. They are known to throw rockers at over 9K even with upgraded valve springs.

I can believe that with that simple ball and socket design. The harmonics involved at that rpm and the rockers just aren't in there well enough to handle it.
