rod knock on dohc zc motor
i have search on local forums like froumshawaii and other no one really knows much about the motor so here first is it possible to put a dohc zc head on another d series block such a a 1.6 non vtec motor like the old si , or could a even use a newer 1.6 soch vtec block . i was thinking i would not know till i take the heads off and look at the block to see if the oil and water passages are the same ...... compare the zc head gasket to the 1.6 soch vtec or the 1.6 non vtec blocks?
or could i just put the crank rods pistons from another d series 1.6 and put it in to the zc block and just get it balanced
looking to fix it with little down time ......... you think it worth it maching the old crank ? not likely right ? beening that d series parts are so cheap
oh yah dont want to switch to b series on this one ...........i would like keep this one different thanks scott

Re: rod knock on dohc zc motor (civichbsmn)
i dont believe the dohc zc can mix and match with any other motor parts. ive heard of using d16a6 rods and pistons but i dunno if that was for the dohc or sohc zc prob the single. id just buy another zc block . its gonna be cheaper than rebuilding. machining the crank is not recommened. it will not be as strong as before. .. if u need a zc motor find me a SOHC vtec or d16a6 and ill pull my zc .. i dont want it for the same reason. parts are hard to find.

switchin heads will not work..however, if you can find the thread..someone has done it, but dont know if it worked very long or not..
as for the headgaskets, they are not the same.. the dohc zc uses an 89 teg as for the other d-series can interchange.
regular d-series pistions/rods will work but it will greatly alter the compression.
and a little information, the dohc zc pistons/rods are what makes the dohc zc a good engine. rods are the strongest of the d-series and as well as the piston
