Default Damn noob question... What turbo is this... Ugh Noobs!!!

I have really tried to avoid posting this thread. I just bought a bunch of old turbo stuff from my step-brother for $400. I figured I really cant go wrong.
The larger of the two turbos I was told it was a T3/t4 Hybrid. When I asked trim size, he was lost. He is not mechanically inclined at all and this stuff has been in a attic for over 6 yrs. I am pretty sure this is a t28 but can't be 100%. If anyone has payed attention to my build thread in the appearance section, I just dropped a stock GSR into my 94 VX. I also have a second GSR block I plan on sending off to be sleeved to be able to handle a reaper and shoot for 500+. In the mean time I want to learn more about FI so I want to boost my stock block to around the 300 mark.

Again sorry for the noob thread... but thank you for the help in advance!!!

This is all I got for 400...

Turbo in question is on the black mat in pic below.

Here is the turbo in question...

Thought this was odd. Never seen a round opening... I would think this would be bad for performance???

Exhaust side

Intake side

Find a micrometer and measure the inducer and exducer on both the compressor wheel and turbine. That's the only way to know for sure what you have.

Ok so I figured out the intake side is a 58 trim using this link...
http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...Tech%20102.pdf
Having issues with figuring exhaust side's trim. I keep getting 1.33

Can anyone confirm this?

Well I think the cold side came from a old t-bird or svo mustang and the shodan said the hot side is a p-trim so I think this can hit a 300 hp goal but not much more.

He can hit a lot more with it, but the flanging is funky, and as stated was made for an old T-bird setup. Looks like an older 3776 wheel.

I think my step brother got jipped because he said he bought this new from some performance turbo builders out of Alabama. And that it only has 5000 miles on it yet it has almost a mm of shaft play.

Ok I have been talking to my sb and he told me he bought this turbo through Work turbochargers out of Pelham AL. Also that they built this as a copy to a t3/t04e turbo. Does anybody know anything about this company?

"T3/T4" is just a name used as a housing and compressor family combination. that doesn't tell anything inside the wheels. they are using garrett parts with a custom configuration. Whether or not this company is still around is irrelevant; its using Garrett parts and can therefore can be serviced by an authorized Garrett dealer.

I am aware of that. I tried arguing this to my step brother but quickly became aggravated and changed the subject! I figured they are relatively close so I may just send it to them.

Thanks Shodan for your help!!! UdaMan
