Default 92 GSR, B16A Swap - Dyno Plot Pictures and Movie....I want feedback.

Well, I finally got my 92 Integra GSR over to the dyno. $85 for four runs to get a baseline including a wideband O2 sensor. The guys even would have allowed me to tune a little between runs, but I only have distributor timing to tune. There's a whole directory of pictures, and a movie to watch. Anyhow, any feed back is welcome.

Specs:
Stock P61 (92-93 GSR ECU)
JDM 92-95 B16A
Stock 10.4:1 compression ratio
B17A airbox modified for cold air
B17A exhaust manifold
2.25" crush bent exhaust
Timing advanced to 18 degrees
Gas was 93 octane

Full size plot:

The movie:

The directory:

For a fairly stock engine those are some healthy numbers!

How come you went down in displacement and not up with the new engine?

edit: just watched the video...sounds good

Now if you could just find a way to lean it out up top some...

Tom

I was curious if anyone had any feedback on the fluctuations below 3000 rpm, at 5000 rpm, and 5750 rpm? My friend said he thought it may be pinging and my timing is advanced 2 degrees, but still within stock specs.

BTW, I went down in displacement because sourcing a B17A in decent shape is next to impossible and I needed this car as transportation. The B16A was available and ready for shipping. I only lost one lb-ft of torque and gained about 8-10hp over the B17A.

Does anybody else have any numbers for their OBDI 92-95 B16A? I'm curious as to how my engine compares, and what other peoples' plots look like.

EDIT: I'm still learning about A/F ratios and dyno plots but what's optimal for power? 14.7 is optimal for economy/gas mileage correct?

Is that torque curve flat or what!!
OBDI rules! My 92 GSR made 148 whp with mods below, which aren't many for power. I have to get my car weighed next. It should be around 2300 lbs.

You should shoot for 13.5-14:1 A/F, you want to run Stoich (14.7) plus a little rich (To be on the safe side).

The A/F below 3000 is lean because that is when they went from part throttle to full throttle on the dyno, car had to catch up, the other dips dont look bad, one is during VTEC X-over.

Thanks for the input on the plots, and the numbers on your own engines. BTW, those of you that responded with B16A numbers, are those first gen or second gen B16A's? (88-91, or 92-95?)

So it looks like I'm not too bad with my engine management so far. It shouldn't be dangerous at all to run WOT to 8000rpm with the graph you guys see, would it be? I auto-cross on the weekends, and generally drive the car pretty hard.

Still learning the technical bits of reading data from an engine, but I've done all of the work on my car so far, and not much scares me anymore.

Re: Fluctuations in plot

What kind of dyno is it? Is it an electrical absorption-type? If so, sometimes the control system can get slightly off-balance, and constantly waver like that...

I understand why the A/F bounces under 3000 now. I guess Honda's make the most power running a little richer than stoich, correct?

So overall, my A/F curves look pretty good right? Does that mean I'm running too rich when VTEC crosses over, or does that look pretty good too? I've been reading dyno plots more and more, to try and get a feel what a well-tuned VTEC Honda plot should look like.

<-Still learning

So what would be a suggested way of richening up the A/F mixture? Keep in mind this is going to be a stock internal, well breathing (Headers, CAIntake, Full 2.5" exhaust).

VAFC?
Hondata?
FPR?

I feel like I'm pulling teeth to get answers here.

that's a nice sound. Does B16A have secondaries, or is that just a high VTEC crossover? 'Cuz I can definitely hear it kick in.

Neither 92-93 (B17A1's) GSRs nor 92-95 B16A's have IAB (secondary intake runners). That's just the VTEC cross-over. On a stock B17A1 it's reported to cross over at 5600 rpm and I would imagine the B16A is similar. You can look at the graph and see where it kicks in under WOT.

Solid numbers.

My friend's stock B16 from his 99 SI coupe put 140 to the wheels. I can only hope my 1st gen B16A gets close to 150 w/the ITR manifold and cams. Old B16's are crapshoots.

Hey Jonna.....Very good numbers (for stock), excellent and cost effective swap for a tired old B17.....

I may do a B16 swap into my 90 DA if an H22A swap is too much hassle....I know they're apples and oranges in difference but money talks as well....I only hope that if I go the B16 route that my numbers are as strong as yours.........

cheers....

Nothing to be proud of but it gets the job done for cheap.
