Default do i need to clear coat alluminum wheels?

ok so i am going to strip off the ugly black rattle can paint that my fat 5 wheels came with. but I'm wondering when i do strip the paint out, will i need to clear coat the wheels so that it doesn't corrode? will it damage it if i don't put clear coat? what kind of clear coat should i use? thanks

Unless you want the patina forming on the surface, you'll need to either coat them or regularly remove it.

They were clear coated from the factory for that reason.

You should see what Midwest road salt will do to a aluminum wheel that has been crappily cleared. It will eat sections of your rim away as soon as it hits the aluminum. I have seen it mostly on VW rims
