What kind of Muffler is this?
I am looking to change up the exhaust on my car to 3" and I am looking to do something similar to this.

I am only talking about the muffler, as this is obviously not an exhaust I can buy already assembled.
To me, it looks like it is a sprint car muffler, thats been modded a little bit but I'm not sure. Any input would be awesome.
heres a sprint car muffler for comparison

I am looking for one i can tuck inside the bumper and do a turndown exit. and these sprint car mufflers are pretty small. Just debating on if it will sound good on my car or not considering mine doesn't make 1000hp like a sprint car does lol.
I don't care where you live, that ****'ll get you pulled over in a heart beat. Sprint cars have open mufflers like that because they NEED to flow that much air. On a little 1.6-2.2L motor, you'll actually lose power down low, where it matters. You'll also probably be able to hear the individual cylinders firing with an exhaust like that.
I have a b20 that I am about to run nitrous on. And I live in Oregon. Cops let you drive around open header and don't give a f*ck look into my build thread if you want but with the setup it has now you can feel that the exhaust is choking it. I think that 3" is my best option especially when I start running nitrous.

I think you nailed it! Thanks dude.
And it would be loud but it would not be as loud as open header. I will still be running a resonator also. I've had car with 3" exhaust before, they aren't that loud. They are considerably louder than 2.5" exhaust setups though.

you will NOT lose power with a 3in setup ever.
STOCK b16s have shown power gains throughout the WHOLE power range. so no low end loss or high end loss.
its been proven about 100x. stop telling people what you think and go look up the facts. bigger is better.
with some resonators and cat you'd never get pulled over. its not hard to quiet a big exhaust down. just costs more.
as for what you want though if you really can run open header do it. i mean anything after the collector is restriction.
was this dyno on the same car? 3" off, then immediatly put on same day, same dyno, so on?

Orly?
More regurgitated misinformation

Finally, someone that actually knows what they're talking about.

I used to believe that backpressure myth too until I actually researched and read the facts. Dynos don't lie.
And to be honest, I couldn't find that dyno sheet, so I cannot backup its credibility.
Thanks for the actual useful information guys, I plan on running a 3" with a 24" resonator to probably either a sprint car muffler, or I might spend a lil more cash and buy a vibrant muffler or something. I cant find style I like that is reasonably priced
And I really only need the muffler as I am just going to fab it up myself.

Hero thanks for that link, Definitely some good information on those pages along with other links posted on that page. Definitely going to upgrade to 3" and maybe run open header on weekends
