91 civic with d16z6, CEL 4 ???
Hello all, this is my first post but I have followed this site for a while. I have a 1991 civic that had a d15b2 that I replaced with a d16z6 junkyard motor. The swap went good overall thanks to info on this site and others. My only problem is I now have a CEL 4, crank sensor.
I have diagnosed this pretty thoroughly and would like some input for some other possible ideas. So far I have checked my wiring from the distributor to the ECU. TDC, CKP, and CYP sensor wiring all has about .2 ohms resistance and no shorts to power or ground. All three sensors have acceptable resistance according to alldata specs. All wire coloring matches up from the ecu to distributor. I have swapped the "guts" from 3 different distributors into mine and still no luck. I have 2 different P28 ecus, no change. I find it hard to believe i could have gotten 3 different crank sensors all with the same problem, however they were all junkyard parts. Is there anything else that could trigger this code that is not in the distributor circuit? Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

Yeah, I pull the hazard fuse for a little while and it still comes back. It sets the code immediately after I start the car, maybe 5 seconds so I'm assuming its a hard code. Thats with both ECUs
Nobody has any ideas for me? Is this question better asked in the eg forum? Anyway I'll repost the fix when I finally figure it out, I see there have been a few other unanswered CEL 4 threads also.
What pins are the crank sensor going to on the ecu? You have to pull the ecu fuse and the backup fuse and disconnect the battery for at least 30 seconds to a minute to clear the code.

The crank sensor pins are B15 and B16. I usually disconnect the battery overnight before I drive it again, I would think that would clear codes. I have a new distributor coming. I figure new ecu, new distributor, good wiring............maybe no CEL. Thanks for the response.
I finally figured out my problem. Turns out it was really dumb but hopefully someone can learn from it. When I first searched how to read codes on my new ob1 ecu (google, not this site) I read that each code was separated by a short flash. Obviously this is not true as the short flash is part of the code. I thought I had a code 4 when I actually had a code 41. So, after exhaustively diagnosing my crank sensor circuit to no avail I realize that all was for nothing.......oh well I guess we all make stupid mistakes. So, my problem turned out to be that the wiring harness that I got was wired for a one wire O2 sensor but my ECU needed a heated 4 wire sensor. Wired up the 4 wire and now all is good. Thanks for anyone who looked at this post and the few who tried to help. By the way, as compared to the original D15b2 motor this D16Z6 hauls ***! I'm very happy with the swap and would recommend it to anyone with a ef civic that doesn't mind rewiring their whole car........

I haven't put all the wiring back into a loom yet. I'm waiting to make sure I don't have to repair anything before I do that. This is a picture before the bluing of my Ebay header, I think that looks kinda cool though.
