d16z6 distributor problems
I recently put a '93 d16z6 into a '90 LX, full obd1 swap. First startup ran crappy with CEL #4 - swapped crank angle sensor wires (I *swear* it was right the 1st time), ran perfect. Problem is that it still gives a CEL #4 after resetting the ecu multiple times. Crank angle sensor leads read 458ohms (within 350-500 limits). It runs great, but I'm almost sure I'm not getting vtec, I'm guessing because of the CEL. It has a super-short ram intake, and I can't hear any bit of crossover. (will try to rig a light to the solenoid to verify)
I've read that a dying dizzy will usually give a CEL #4 but the engine/ecu ran w/o cel in the teg it was in previously (long story). Dizzy has a new cap/rotor, timing is good. It had the orange dust inside the old cap, and I think I remember reading about how that dust is a sign the dizzy is dying.
As much as I would like to try another ecu/dizzy, this is Wisconsin, I don't have many friends that are into Hondas. Those that are have b-swaps or obd2 cars. I'm going for emissions soon, don't want to fail due to a dead dizzy. Any ideas?
ps - I've seen that some people mix certain b-series distributor internals with different dizzy shells, could I take a obd1 or obd2 d-series dizzy and use the internals with my odd-ball d16z6 dizzy case?
