B16 valve cover issue
Ive got an ls vtec in my integra with a 2nd gen b16 a. As you guys probably know the PCvvalves on te 96-00 sir civics are in the block. So I'm runni no Pcv valve and no cat and my car smokes bad under acceleration and at idle. I'm hoping a first gen b16 valve cover with the Pcv valve entact will help cure my smoke problem. Have any of you guys ever had this issue? Any advice is greatly appreciate
It's blue smoke sometimes a little whiter almost at times. But it neither smells like coolant or oil and it doesn't go through coolant or oil. I have a slight oil leak from the valve cover gasket and if it burns oil it's not very much at all. I've never ran a vehicle with no cat before either but I can't imagine it would cause it to smoke as badly as it does. I compression tested all 4 cylinders and they are all to spec, but 3 of 4 plugs are wet with what appears to be oil. And also to add , the map that is on my ecu is on another ls vtec in the city and is running great. I'm rather confused
I just did my B16 swap and had no PCV valve for a couple weeks. I also have no cat and that is not the cause of the smoke. My head gasket was blown, whether this is related to the PCV or not, I'm not sure. Pull the oil cap off. If its white and lumpy oil, your head gasket is blown.
Blue smoke meaning it's burning oil. The plugs with oil could be from the spark plug tube seals. Change them when you do the valve cover gasket too.
I'm not too sure, but the b16a valve cover doesn't have pcv valve on them. o.O I thought only the b20 and obd II b18b valve cover had them.
Having no cat is not a reason why it would smoke.

Definitely sounds like more problems than just not running a PCV. When you say your compression was to spec, what were your numbers? Also, did you do a leakdown test? White smoke in the exhaust is more than likely coolant.... which is not normal. But, could be something simple as well. You may have a different setup than the lsv that you got your basemap from, causing it to run rich?
ok i have a full copy of ALLdata it you don't know it the sam Software the deal uses to fix your car
i looked at every civic and integra from 94~00 and all show the same diagram for the PCV.
Now on early systems the pcv is mounted in the breather box on the back of the block under the intake. later models it is mounted to the intake with a hose going to the breather box on the back of the block and a second hose to the intake
the vacume of the intack is what sucks the air through the engine.
now the air getting sucked into the engine goes in one of two ways
eather throught the port on the valve cover or (in a few of them) thought a port on the back of the block just below head into one of the oil return passages.
if your valve cover doesn't have a port on it for air to get in and your block doesn't ether then you can add one to the valve cover very easy.
go to the hardware store and get a 3/8 hose to pipe fitting and a drill bit and tap for the fitting.
then go to your local parts store (autozone has them) and get a little cone filter that fits the 3/8 fitting.
Now when you get home pull off the valve cover and drill a hole in the back side (the one closest to the intake) of the valve cover close to the oil cap. tap the hole then screw in the 3/8's to pipe fitting (it's a tapered fitting so no need for teflon tape or any thing) put the little cone filter on the fitting and clap it down then reinstall the valve cover. (make sure you clean off any metal chips and shaving first)
and your done.

I just remembered the fact that my engine was nOt at operating temp when I did the test. But my values were
Cyl1 195
Cyl2 195
Cyl3 185
Cyl4 180
I didn't do a wet comP test because these numbers appear fIne to me. What is a leak down test? I can try that also. I tried 3 different tunes on the ecu but it wouldn't change the amount the car smokes, but the car runs much smoother and works better with the current tune.
Also cyl 1-3 plugs were all wet with oil but cyl 4 plug was not. And upon closer inspection they've noticed the exhaust is coated in oil. Should have nOticed this before I know

if your blowen blue smoke you will have oil in the exhaust pipe.
Now did you do any thing to the Head or did you just bolt it on?
Did you Check the block was flate?
did you have a lip around the top (where the HG sits) of the cylinders?
Now if you didn't have the head done befor you put it on i'll bet the valve seals and giude are bad.
if you have NO form of PCV right now then this can also creat a vacume or create pressure that will burn oil. if the pressure is high enuff it will push oil past the rings as well as force oil past the seals and gaskets
a wet comp test is wher you pour a cap full of oil in the cylinder and rerun the comp test. If the number are a lot higher say your 195 dry comp turn into 220 your rings are shot and you need new ones. if it stayes the same it etherthen you have a Valve problem a
