is single stage paint wet sandable/color sandable?
I just painted my car a single stage blue and it has some orange peel can i wet sand it and buff it out and what grit 1500 or 2000 and what polish should i use?
You sure can. I finally decided to attempt to learn how to paint and have painted my 94 civic twice over the last month. Both times i had orange peel. The first attempt was to bad to wet sand, although i attempted it and eventually burnt through. The second time i had minor orange peel and just finished wet sanding and buffing and it looks great. I recommend taking some time and watching a few videos on youtube. Start with 2k and see if that removes it, if not go down to 1500 and if that doesn't take care of it go down to 1k. You will want to do small sections at a time and use some sort of block. I used a firm foam sponge. Clean your panel often, like every 60 seconds and let it dry so you can track your progress and remember if you start with 1k and there is just a tiny bit of peel left, go to 1500 at that point because it will keep taking material off. It is kind of a painful process if you have a lot to do, i just did one or 2 panels a day over the course of a week so i wouldn't get frustrated.
Good Luck,
Blake
P.S. don't forget to stay off any edges! You will burn through them really fast.

ok thanks for advice, i have been waiting for 2 months to wetsand because I was afraid of messing up so I just want to get advice from someone who has done this before thanks
it is possible, however since the clearcoat is built into the paint itself, u risk losing your UV protection if u sand and polish too much... you'd have to ask the paint manufacture of the product you used, wat would be the appropriate amount you can remove with cutting and polishing

Wet sanding single stage is a bad idea. Everytime I sprayed it and tried to remove trash that one spot wuld be dull no matter what you did with compound and buffing. My spray job didn't have orange peel and was slicked out so maybe removing the orage peel you couldn't really tell if it dulled it or not. All the UV protection (which isn't much) will be removed if you sand the single stage at all. That paint is cheap for a reason and usually if parked outside and not cleaned and waxed regularly it will fade quick. It's a different story if you do it white b/c you don't be able to tell as much. I would advice base coat clear coat any day just for longevity. I usually single stage door jambs and engine bays just b/c they aren't exposed to the elements and are cheap and I only put 2 coats as opposed to 5+ with base coat clear coat.
if that one spot was dull and could never be compounded and buffed.... then how do people remove oxidation and bring single stage paints back up to a shine??

You can totally wetsand single stage.
Will it dull, yeah you sand anything and it'll dull.
Polish it with some rubbing compound, polish, and then wax it.
I went with 1200 grit cause I'm cheap. Like 3 bucks for a pack from harbor freight. It took forever to cut it with the buffer, go finer grit.
Single stage jet black from TCP global. Painted 2 years ago sat outside in the elements the duration, got it running and finally stopped being lazy and wetsanded it 2 weeks ago. Driveway painted FTW!

You can wetland single stage paint. The people that had issues probably had metallic flake in the paint. Automotive single stage paint jobs have been around for over 100yrs, so it's proven.
