Default headgasket residue clean up

So it’s time for to replace the head gasket on the single slam. My question is what do you guys recommend to clean up the surface of the deck? The head is going to be sent out for resurfacing and hot tanking. So that’s not an issue.

I hear the 3m disc pads do work, but also have the possibility of damaging the deck. I know the proper way is to get the deck resurfaced but is out of my budget right now.

Tried the following

Permitex Gasket Remover
Carb cleaner / razor
Gasket Remover / razor

Nothing seems to really get the job done.

I can post pictures when i get home. Also for the record the head gasket was the composite type. Aka Fel-Pro
