Icon6 03 Civic Si, 4k rpm power crap-out

So when I hit 4k rpm my car boggs down and I seem to lose power, almost feels like it drops out of gear until revs drop down below 4k and it engages back like everything is fine and nothing happened. This problem occurred on random days over the course of last week and has increased in frequency.
My one mechanic says I need to change out my clutch and flywheel ($1,500).
The other mechanic says he just needs to replace a crapped out battery connector (positive side) because it wasn't making enough contact to supply the vtec solenoid with the power it needed.
Any thoughts or helpful experiences out there?

wow two completely different answers I wouldn't have guessed. But with your story I can't really give you a good answer.

Any check engine lights? Does it actually keep pulling past 4k then and just feels weak?

Update: I went with the cheaper solution, replaced the terminal and so far it feels right again. After years of being elbows deep in CRX's, Integra's, and Nissan 240's, (all late 80's, early 90's) I never have come across a problem caused by the battery not making enough contact with the connector. It has always been a simple thing in my mind: Either it's touching or it isn't. Now I know better. Solenoid needs sufficient voltage or ugly things happen.

Thanks for trying to help out, Spaz! And in case you're still interested for future cases; it bogged down completely after 4k rpm. Felt almost like downshifting to slow down, when you don't give it any gas. Know what I mean? Then picked right back up as soon as the revs dropped under the 4k mark, like nothing ever happened.

Still, I'm at 116k miles and still using the complete original tranny. I'm thinking I should be changing my clutch out soon anyway....
