Default Solidworks Collector Design - need some helps

I followed a guide someone had posted here. It was helpful. I did a couple things differently but its very nice that someone laid the ground work.

Here is my collector for a 6-1:

Firstly - you can see how my middle two pipes sit lower in the flange than the other 4. How can I correct this? I created a 1.25 schedule 10 pipe profile (1.660 OD, 1.42 ID) but it wants to seat it in there like that for some reason when I connect my lines up.

Secondly - whats the easiest way of clearing out the collector internally? I want to hollow it out.

Thanks!

Jon

In your 3d sketch, change the lines you have drawn for the four outer pipes to construction lines. Then draw a line over the top of each of them, connected to the point on the flange, but not running the full length of the construction line. Make the length of these lines equal to the length of the middle lines, and then redo your profile with those lines.

Because of the angle change, the path lines for your outer pipes are longer than the path lines for your inner pipes, hence the different pipe lengths.

Awesome - I will have to check this out tonight. I am a total newb to SW just self-teaching. Where is "construction lines" at? I know there's a center line and line tool, but don't remember seeing construction.

Just edit the sketch, select the line, and in the line properties dialog (on the left) there is a check box marked "for construction". Check the box, and the line will turn dashed.

When i do that I get "Feature Structural Member 6 failed to rebuild which may cause subsequent features to fail. Would you like to repair Structural Member 6 before SW Builds the subsequent features?"

Continue or Stop and Repair

Hmm

I attached my part - can you take a look at it? Also, I cannot get the collector to cut out - I want to clear all the crap out of the inside like it will really be once I make it.

do you have 1 part that you used for all 6 runners or did you make 6 different part files?
I would have made 6 so that I could extrude cut the ID and OD of each tube within the assembly, then youll have the real cut shape of the tube save as a part.

Yeah, sorry. I forgot to warn you that you need to redo the structural member. You essentially deleted the line that you were using as a guide for the pipe extrusion when you turned it into a construction line. It may be fastest for you to just delete your original structural member, and just make another one using the shorter lines.

Ok, I took a look at your file and made some changes. Here is how I would have done it.

i designed a few of these, each in different programs, being solid works, inventor, autocad, and pro-e. the easiest i felt was autocad. i could take my extrusions and angle them how i wanted them, then union them all together. then, setting a solid rod through the center of each collector pipe and subtracting them one by one, this will give you the angle cut profile you are looking for
