Default What do I need to consider when planning an H2B swap, '98 Civic EX

I have a '98 Civic EX (D16Y8, manual) and am about to buy a new car. That being said, I'm keeping the Civic and would like to take 6 months to a year to research and plan for an H2B swap - it wont be a DD.

1) What/where are the best source(s) for learning up on everthing engine swaps?

2) The H22 seems to be the general route to go. What other choices, if any, do you suggest I research/consider in terms of choosing an H-series engine for an H2B swap?

3) It looks like I can choose between several B-Series trans. i.e. ITR, B16, etc. What kinds of things do I need to consider when choosing the transmission?

4) I haven't decided if I want to boost the H2B, or whether it is even practical to consider...any info/experience on doing an H2B with Turbo would help me get an idea of what it entails and if its worth doing.

In terms of the type of performance I'm looking to get, my goal isn't quite set yet, so I apologize if this infomation is necessary to answer some of my questions...I don't want to have too lofty and/or unrealistic of a goal, but I don't want to tight cast this project either.

Just looking to be pointed in the right direction with respect to the above questions and any other things I need to consider.

Bumb...researching H22a v. H23a blue top for H2B, looks like it can be done both ways but don't know what advantages/disadvantages are between the 2? What H-Series do you like for H2B, not a dd

1.. reaesrch here in the hybri forum, its what i did and i learned alot in a little amont of time

2. i would either choose the jdm h22a or the h23 bluetop. h22a has a closed deck but smaller stroke... the h23 has a open deck but larger stroke and if u get a original bluetop h23 head itll have a factory port and polish

3. i personally have a b16 transmission with quaife lsd.. i would stick with b16 or type r if going all motor

thanx. def a lot of info on this site, just hard to differentiate between fact and fiction. plus, there are a lot of trade-offs between the various h engines...any thoughts on the following:

- H22a OBDII, specifically a '97-'01 lude s-spec? reading that this is the best OBDII but that difficulties arise with ATTS (not too familiar with why/if this is an issue) as well as the EK ECUs.

- H22a1 '92-'96 JDM lude si-vtec and/or '94-'97 JDM accord sir

- H23a2 '92-'96 EDM accord 2.3i? not a vtec

- H23a JDM vtec (blue top)? doesn't have oil squirters (good/bad?)

- what about type r version of H22a (red top unless mistaken?)

can/would you do H2B with any of these engines?

I see that some people on this forum have gone H2B with the H22A Type-S spec. What confuses me is that I thought the this engine came with LSD tranny...isn't that a b-series tranny? If so, then wouldnt the Type S-Spec be an H2B as is??? Sorry if that is a dumb question, I am new to the H2B/Hybrid world.

LSD simply means limited slip differential. Means both front wheels are given power not just one. Most jdm trannies have LSD doesn't matter what motor they are for. From what I've read the euro accord type r motor is pretty popular and $2k for a long block is a pretty good price as starting point, then you'll have to look at the different h2b kits and see what suits your needs.

I forget what the exact differences are but each kit has its trade offs if I recall correctly. You'll need a step down harness for the ecu if you want to tune as well as some obd1 sensors and ecu quite a bit to plan but quickly becoming one of the more popular swaps and def a good bang for your buck

Also check this thread out good info
