Default h22a crankshaft question

so i spun a bearing in my h22a last week. the car has not had a loss in performance or anything but starts knocking at startup and i found copper shavings in the oil pan.

my question is besides the bearings and the crank what else could be messed up in the motor?

so pretty much could i possibly get by with just replacing the crank and bearings or would i be better off just buying a short block and replace the bearings and piston rings and overhaul it or just dish out the money for a motor from jspecauto?

Right. But what's the worst damage that a spun rod bearing can do?

i spun a bearing bout a year ago it wasnt bad at first but as i kept driving my car the knock got louder, so i took everything apart and looked at the bearing it wasnt too bad though, im notr sure if it ruined the rod bcuz the spun rod bearing was constant across, but my crank looked fine. if i were you id just fix it before it blows in the middle of the road

If there are shavings, they could get into the oil pump and damage it, and get all through the engine possibly, scoring the cams, damaging rockers, etc. If the bearing creates a hot spot, it can make the crank heat up enough to snap etc.

I would atleast get the crank micro polished.. measure out your clearances

The simpler and quite very possibly cheaper route will be to buy another short block. The simplest route is to buy a full motor.

I spun a bearing 2 months ago and I decided to fix it right...a full gasket/ring rebuild while replacing the bearings. So far, my motor has been at the shop for 3 weeks (finally ready for pickup) just to get the engine cleaned, block honed and decked, and to get the head milled.

$160 for that work.
Probably $40 more for balancing my crank.
Another $25 prolly for micropolishing.
Another $25 to set my new rings.

Estimated $140 for a very cheap ebay gasket/ring/bearing kit.

So far thats about $400 on the rebuild and its gonna be a while before its back on the road. Luckily, I can do every bit of the rest of the work rebuilding and I did the pull & disassembly myself. Otherwise you are looking at $$$$$ labor
