Default Wiring disaster

Hello, for quite some time my 92 Hatch has just had horrible electrical issues, and I wanna seek some thoughts of people who know their cars/civics.

As I said before it is a 1992 Hatch with a stock engine and no performance add on's. It has had terrible owners in the past as I can tell how it was rewired after speakers and some other things were taken out, cut wires and put new wires in half *** and cheaply. I replaced my driver side head light last summer and discovered the bulb mount isn't even for the OEM headlight, it was cut off and a new one put back on that doesn't fit inside unless it is taped...

That is not my problem however; the problem is the inside wiring, to my dash. My stereo works fine in the day when the headlights are off, but at night the stereo will randomly cut out or when I hit a bump, this is very annoying. Note that the stereo is in fine. My dash lights dim when the headlights are turned on and my speedometer lights don't even turn on and my speedometer doesn't work, but all others do, such as RPM's and temp and gas (which doesn't show how much I have perfectly, its like an estimation.)
Sometimes the Speedometer lights will randomly work for some time and same thing with the speedometer its self.

I'm sorry if this is hard to follow or make sense, it has just gotten annoying and I would like it fixed and just looking for some help. That being said, if you are not gonna offer any help and just rag on this because some of you do that, just keep it to yourself.

Thanks for viewing this and for any help you have!

Start by cleaning the grounds in your engine bay and the battery posts, then remove the stereo, and take apart/inspect whatever wiring is between the HU and any remaining factory harness. Are there any subs or amps in the car? Is the wiring sound and are the ground wires a large enough gauge to handle the current draw?

Anything that is crimped with those craptastic "butt connectors" should be considered suspect.

I've never seen a used car with competently installed stereo equipment, ever.

I had the stereo put in and completely re-wired, as the old wiring was just terrible, But it could be something from the wiring harness, I will have to check that area out again. There is one sub and an amp, with a ground that is good. But there could be another bad ground somewhere else within the car that I havn't found.

I can't say much more than: set aside a weekend with the Service Manual or (better) the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual and start testing wires with a multimeter. Dash light problems likely have to do with RED/BLK and/or a craptastic dimmer switch (these like to suck - known problem). Speedo could be lots of stuff - try replacing it.
