Icon6 2000 Honda civic ex, need advice for certain problems! Please help!

I have a 2000 Honda civic ex coupe, it has came up with a couple of problems (not all at the same time) that I would like to get some advice on on how to fix or just identify the problem, your help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!!

1. Brake lights DO NOT turn off, I'm having to disconnect the battery every time I turn of my car.
2. Turn signals don't work(not even hazards) and I've checked fuses and bulbs work fine.
3. I had my transmission (manual) switched out for a newer one at the mechanics and now my car tends to redline at around 5400 rpms?!
4. My car idles low (no more than 500 rpms) when starting my car cold and when the car is heated the rpms go down when I turn on my a/c.

as far as your brake lights or blinkers it is a possibility someone could have the harnesses mixed up.
U would have a compression test done to check the rpm issue & do you know which tranny they put in?

There's a rubber stopper on the brake pedal that pushes up against the switch, chances are it broke and fell out.

Yea, I actually just checked it and you're right, the stopper has fell out is there a way to purchase the stopper like at a local autozone or is there an easy fix to replace the stopper?

I've figured out the brake problem but the blinkers is still a mystery to me? How do I do a compression test ( sorry for my lack of knowledge) ?

As for the tranny, I have no idea, I paid the mechanic, he shopped around for the tranny, installed it and that's all i know about.....can it be that he put a compatible tranny yet not the same one the motor comes with?!

You can buy them from autozone, IIRC it's actually cheaper to buy them at Honda though, retail is $2.27. You can also glue or tape a penny over the hole.

As far as the transmission goes the actual engine redline is lower? That's not an issue with the transmission. Sounds more like vtec isn't engaging. (vtec solenoid or pressure switch might have been unplugged or broken during the trans installation.) If the gearing is just different though he may have replaced the trans with a base model which is geared longer.

As far as the signal lights go, check the hazard light switch, if it's not plugged in you wont have signal lights.

The vtec solenoid and pressure switch are on the back side of the head closest to the transmission. It will look similar to the pic below:
