Where is the factory knock sensor on the D series motors?
I ordered a J&S Vampire knock detection/reduction box and hopefully it arrives this week.
I'd like to put its sensor where the factory D series sensor used to go.
Then the plan is to start turning up boost with the confidence that my motor won't knock from timing. At least not without me doing something really stupid.
Thanks
Malcolm

You sure about that? autoparts stores list a replacement sensor for the car. Heck just go to rockauto.com and look for a 98 civic 1.6 D series and there's a knock sensor for it. Even shows a pic of it. I just don't know where it is on the motor.

as close to the top of the block as possible in between cylinder 2 and 3 is best place to mount one. if there isnt a mounting location weld on a bung
Humm weld to the block? It's aluminum right? suppose I could try that. That would be under the intake manifold on the back side of the block. Not sure welding in there would be possible without some major diss-assembly as it's so cramped back there. Will definitely investigate though.
My old D16y8 definatly had a Knock sensor...Located on the top of block in the center like Turbo-Ls talking about. Its one wire just like Kyden stated. You cant miss it. Not sure if the threading will be compatiable with youre J&S but im sure you can def make it work
