removing control arms

Default removing control arms

today i was having a hard time trying to remove the upper front control arms,,,i know they are weilded to the ball joints,,,the part i cant seem to take apart is where the ball joint is connected to the part that is connected to the tire, has anybody figured out a way to take that part apart? i was thinkin of tryin to hammer it out

youll probably have to get a ball joint seperater thing. it looks like a fork with 2 prongs that are tapered

i looks like a big tunning fork... goto your LHS to get one should be like no more then 20 if that.. more like 10 for mine

If you hammer it, it will spread the end of the bolt out, and you will not be able to thread the nut back on.

Get a pickle fork, which is what they were describing.

If you hammer it, it will spread the end of the bolt out, and you will not be able to thread the nut back on.
You don't have to hit the bolt, just hit the knuckle. It will come loose.

Eh, yeah, I was thinking of something else.

But I would still recommend getting a pickle fork.

ball joint seperater is the best 10 bucks i ever spent .. you can use that thing for so much stuff. seperating ball joints, prying out bolts, popin out axles, hitting ppl, gettin motor mount bolts out.. good tool !
