1997 LX overdrive troubles
I have a 1997 lx that goes in and out of lock up but it does the exact opposite of what it should do,it goes out of lock up when it is under low load and when it is under a higher load it stays in lock up any suggestions???
Jump the blue connector, or use a OBDII scanner to see if there are any codes stored in the computer. If none move on to under hood.
Check that the down shift cable from the TB to the transmission is adjusted correctly.
Back probe the TPS and verify that the voltage reads smooth and that there are no dead spots or non linear changes.
Move on to the NM/NC sensors, if they become covered in ferrous metal the sensor does not work correctly and can cause erratic, harsh, or incorrect shifting.
Check out the H4A link in my sig.

Functionality of lockup is dependent on a few conditions.
Below 50MPH the converter ususally does not lock.
When going down a grade, low load, the converter will lock/unlock intermittently to maintain a smooth operation. It will also unlock if you close throttle.
If the locking/unlocking is overtly obvious and feels like lugging the engine, verify engine condition. Engine health greatly affects how the transmission performs. Often a 'hard' shift is due to an engine issue, not transmission/transmission control problems.

Ok that seems like what it does going down hills but on level road and light throttle the TC unlocks and if you add any throttle it goes back in to lock up. I have changed the fluid (3x3 change) and it seems better but still not right.
