blown head gasket?
my ex has a 93 del sol with a 1.6,she has oil going into the radiator, its been like that for quite sometime,on wed she drove it and it was running like it should, but on thurs she went to go to work and it was pinging, sputtering, with alittle white smoke coming out the back...this is how it was described to me,I'll be looking at it today (saturday),i'm wondering if its a possible blown head gasket, and will a compression test show this.
thanks
thanks
Yes it does sound like the head gasket may be bad. A compression test may not show anything though unless it is completely blown. A leak down test is a better indicator of a HG problem.
If there's oil in the coolant it's either a blown headgasket or a cracked head/block. You'll need to flush out all the old coolant (don't forget the heater core) and replace the headgasket, water pump, thermostat and rad cap (oil destroys rubber when you get it in a cooling system like that)
Well it turns out her issue was that she put in way too much oil,I drained the oil, replaced the plugs, the car now runs normal again, but I do see either a head gasket,or another motor in her future...thank you for everybody for your help...
Too much oil doesn't just mysteriously end up in the cooling system. Also if there's way too much oil in it half of it is probably coolant. Plan for a spun bearing in the near future.
