Default TURBO BUILD WHATS MISSING.

So, in the process of a turbo build B16-
engine has a p28 ECU. What needs to be done to run the car?

I just installed 440 injectors.. Looking for a tune or something to get me going. Not sure whats what- I called local shop they said 1000-?

Am told need engine managment. Hondata I dont know much about tuning or chips this is something I leave to specialist some one who does it everyday. I called local shop and they scared me- I email some one else about chip and explain I have a basically stock car, With a Turbo headgasket (thicker) FPR.. Larger injectors.. so on and they said they have a map that would work.

So now im thinking... what do I exactly do. Next step is starting car and were not going to do that yet..

I would suggest you talk to the person who is going to be tuning your car. ask them what they would prefer to tune and what the best route for you will be. With a boosted setup, there is no magical base map that you can buy online that will run your car reliably.

To be honest with you a $1000 for a complete boost tune, including the ECU/EMS, a dyno and a street tune. Isn't outrageous. At the very least it is going to cost you between $500-$800 for an EMS and tune.

The most forgotten and most important part of a build, the tune. It is the, hands down, most important part of any build. Specially if you want your boosted engine to perform and last any length of time. A lot of people don't even realize how much it costs to tune a car until they have spent all of their money on engine parts and other misc car parts.

Has your P28 already been modified, aka chipped? If it has already been chipped then you are good to go for tuning. If it is still stock (virgin) then you can have it chipped for tuning. That will save you a couple bucks. It is still probably going to cost you somewhere in the range of $400-$600 for chipping the ECU and a tune. It all depends on your local dyno/shop rates though.

For example, around here it is $550 for a complete dyno & street tune. If you need to have your ECU chipped, it's an extra $75-$100 depending on what is required. and $75-$100/hr shop rate if your car requires any sort of mechanical attention. You want to make sure that your car is 100% mechanically ready to roll before you show up.

Not to flame but I can't believe you put all that work into your car without knowing it would need a tune.

Definitely go with what your tuner is comfortable with, and definitely get up with xenocron.

Basically if you were to go with crome a free tuner you would need about 400 in hardware.

Ostrich Emulator
Hulog
Wideband O2 Sensor
Datalogging cables
and someoneo to chip the ECU

With this you could tune your car yourself but I don't recommend it, unless you've done extensive research.

Another good place to start on what tuning program you should get and help familiarize you with all the terms is PGMFI.org

Tune yourself price breakdown.

Ostrich = $175
Hulog/Hondalog = $35 (datalogging hardware w/cable)
Wideband 02 = $200-$400
ECU chipping service = $75 - $100
Software = $150-$200
Laptop = $200-$2000 (Used-New)

Using Crome Free and Freelog is not recommended for a beginner runnign a boosted build.

You could try and find some of the hardware used. However, it probably won't save you that much in the long run.

What is easiest route- Hondata s300 platform? A system like that is required and what else.

I understand the Tune it your self setup for the most part. I have a system for my truck/computer called datamaster it is a real time logger.

I suppose he needs something like that which is... hondata? and there are custom hondata maps for this application avail. just load the bin or file?

Again Im working on a gmc syclone turbo truck which is some what a diffrent ball park, and at same time I am working on this project. I just want to get the ball rolling a little bit further. I have been looking around for "parts" but not sure what Exactly to get.

Again, am told the P28 ECU is chipped.
Was told from tuner I have to get a brand new Virgin one and not sure why he reccomends. Somme one here mentioned if the chip has been socketed than were good to go.

You can still use a chipped P28 for Hondata or a Neptune/Demon RTP. There are a few mods that will need to be done but you don't need to buy another ECU.

If you are looking for a complete package for a boosted engine - Neptune/Demon RTP; http://www.xenocron.com/neptune-rtp-...age-p-284.html
It comes with everything you will need to tune, including an ECU modified with boost ready components. Your chipped P28 may not have components on board for boost controllers and such. If you went with a package like this, you could sell your chipped P28 for a few bucks to make up some of the cost.

Are you tuning this yourself or having a tuner do it for you? If you are having it tuned ask the tuner what tuning software/hardware he is using. That way you can do some research into what you might need. The hardware/software that he knows the best will take less time to tune. Less time tuning = less money out of your pocket.

As for the topic of custom maps. They are usually referred to as base maps. They are plugged in just to get the engine up and running. You still have to get the engine tuned on a dyno/street tuned. Specially with a boosted engine.
