Chip for a 99 Si? Stock.
Is it possible to chip my Canadian 99 SI (American EX)? If so, what are the pro's/con's. I would like it to be a performance chip, not so much mpg. I've seen chips do a lot to different cars like bimmers, volkswagons, and chevy's. Was just wondering how easy/useful it is for a Honda.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Not worth it. A chip can't get more air into the engine and Honda factory tunes are very good. Best to spend on bolton breather mods and chip later. Air intakes are a good place to start.
I have a K&N CAI. Going to put on an after market exhaust soon. Maybe straight pipe depending on if I can find someone that's done it and sounded good.
Any estimate on HP gain or what difference it will make with a Cold air intake?

I saw no noticeable power gains when I installed my aftermarket intake (2000 USDM EX). However, it does increase noise by a large amount at WOT. You may net 5whp at most.
You will need modifications such as intake/header/exhaust to really take advantage of an engine computer modification.
You would need an obd2b to obd1 ecu jumper harness & chipped obd1 vtec engine computer. For more information read over http://www.phearable.net/tech/efibeginnerguide.html

I don't want a whole tune and all that, that I have to work on myself, I just want a chip that I can plug in, and it works.

You won't find this. All chipped ECUs need to be tuned, and the best way to do it if you don't know how to tune on a dyno is to pay someone to do it for you. This usually costs around $500, or $150-$200/hour on the dyno if you do it yourself. You will also need a wideband oxygen sensor for tuning part throttle on the street, which will run you another ~$200.
