Well I thought I would start a new thread on my GSR transmission Rebuild/Assembly. I plan on installing my modified OBX LSD and all new carbon syncros 1 thru 5 all new seals and bearings as well.

Can't wait for this. I might be comfortable enough to crack my tranny and install a ls 5th and a mFactory LSD after this right up. Trannys have always been something I have found intimidating(no homo)! Thanks Cali dad for your contributions. You are inadvertantly helping me save money.

Thanks guys! Well I pulled a few bolts and out she comes. My clutch and flywheel look pretty good for all the dyno tunes and abuse I have put her threw.

I scuffed up the flywheel and pressure plate a little. Since I have it apart I plan on installing a new 4 Puck Spring hub disc, pilot bearing and an ACT throw-out bearing. Call me crazy, **** or whatever... but since is will be sitting outside for a few days i wanted to cover things up. The desert winds are nasty right now and blows dirt & dust in places you don't want it!

Here is the LSD im using, i bought the upgraded bolt and washer kit for this LSD. Also picked up the carbon syncros 1-5. I pulled the LSD apart to reveal the inside. Looks like OBX cleaned up there more recent units. Non of the stock bolts were stripped and the washers were installed correctly. You probably don't need to go as extreme as I did and mark everything before you disassemble it. I also wanted to make sure the axles splines didn't bind up on the inner gear. would rather know now before its all installed. Now for a little bit of de-burring!!

You are going to want to buy a new set of ring gear bolts, They are reverse thread and are torqued to 80ft pounds and they normally strip slightly when they are being removed. (Note The Picture)

If you cant buy a new set of bearings you can use a bearing puller and re-use them.

Did you buy the newer style Bearing for the LSD? those types of bearing need to have a pre-load set....The newer style have a enclosed bearing, not a roller bearing with the outer race. Then you would need to buy the correct sized Shim as wel pending on the clearance from the transmission case and outer race of bearing once case is put back on...I had those style bearing on mine and switched to the enclosed bearing from the 99-00 SI for the LSD.
I ask cause you mention re-using them and you do show a bearing puller on them. I had a really tough time finding them, and ended up opting for the newer style bearings
Also off topic, is that a Cat or is it gutted out?

haha yea i get you, i was going to say no wonder you came short of 500. Yea exactly what i did as well as far as bearings. So much easier to install too, no need to worry about pre-loading it
Nice write up! Also, that has got to be one of the cleanest tranny cases I have ever seen.
How do you like the carbon syncros? Notice a difference?
Craig - Who's split way to many dirty *** tranny cases.

Thanks I do like to keep my engine and trans clean! As far as the syncros go I have not installed the trans yet. I'm waiting on parts.
