obd2a harness on obd2b car and engine

obd2a harness on obd2b car and engine
Hey. My buddy has a 99 civic dx and needs a new harness but cannot get an obd2b but can get an obd2a. I noticed that the plug ins on the computer are different but if he got the obd2a ecu to go with the harness, would this work?
