Icon2 96 y8 head / 2000 y7 block, what ECU do i use?

Before everyone tells me to search search this has been answered 100 times blah blah; take the time to understand that I'm new to the forum, just like you were once, and haven't quite got the hang of searching specifically and finding specifically the answers I'm looking for ... so with that said, I'll cut to the chase....

My car- 2000 Civic LX, Auto Tranny, Stock motor (hush! its my daily daddy father husband car)

I have a y8 head and intake manifold off a 1996 EX, both complete

Question - I know they will mate and work, my question lies in what ECU would I run, 96-98 or 99-00 P2P

Won't have to bother with Air Injection since its a 96 y8 head

And with the head and ECU I understand I'd be wiring the 3wire IACV, VTEC, and knock sensor correct?

I do know if I run a P28 it will rid the knock sensor but I want to stay OBD2...

Looking for confirmation on ECU firstly... and wanting to rid of all check engine lights ok first start up

P2P is a OBD-2 VTEC ECU.
This is the one you want to use!!

P28 is a OBD-1 VTEC no Knock and no 3 wire IACV

So am I looking for a 96-98 P2P or a 99-00 P2P since my harness is 2000? Also, timing belt and headgasket, y7 timing belt ok and y8 head gasket?

I'm going to replace my head studs also with ARPs

Lastly, where is a good place to pick up pinning/depinning pieces to pin in the knock sensor, Vtec and IACV

Thanks ahead of time

Wait are you staying automatic? You'll need an auto P2P from a 99-00 EX. Also you'll need to swap the throttle body off your Y7 onto the y8s. You'll have to keep using a 3 wire IACV if you stay auto an you can't use a manual P2P. Also are you keeping the Y7 exhaust manifold? If you want to use the Y8 you has to have a cat welded in and extend your secondary 02 to the new cat location.

Yes I'm staying auto , confirmed I'll need an Auto P2P OBD2B ECU and yes ill be using the y7 exhaust manifold until I can track down a y8 manifold here locally or later order a DC 4-1...

Final question, anyone know any good places to track down pinning pieces to pin in the knock sensor, Vtec, and 3wire IACV

Use a really thin needle to depin, move the wires around and wire up the knock sensor, VTEC and 3 wire IACV.

Your car already has a 3 wire IACV btw. 96-00 AUTOMATIC Ex's called for 3 wires as well.

So I'd only be wiring up vtec and knock sensor, won't need to do do the 3wire IACV converspn because above states I already have one correct?

Go to your local Sears and pick up some picks and hooks. I bought a set of 4 for like, $20, just to do some repinning, and they've come in handy a lot. Well worth the money, and something everyone should have in their toolbox.

Yeah on thy last pic you don't have to use a pin or hook. After you click up all the tabs the pin pulls right out without much effort. For OBD1 pins it's a different story.
