D16a6 with y8 Head harness question

Default D16a6 with y8 Head harness question

I have researched and found nothing. I have d16a6 block that I'm in the process of rebuilding for boost. I would like to use a y8 head and drop it into my ek.So I was wondering what engine harness could I use and what kind of modifications would I have to do to it. I have a y7 motor in my car, is it possible to use that harness and do minor things to make it work. I'm not looking to hack it all up and am kind of a noobie to all this but I gotta learn somehow.

you'll be fine with the y7 harness... just need to rerout the throttle cable... and extend a couple wires from what I remember

-wire VTEC solenoid and VTEC pressure switch (knock sensor as well unless you are using an OBD1 ECU)
-convert 3 wire IACV to 2 wire
-possibly extend O2 depending on what exhaust and manifold you are using

I'm assuming you'll be converting to OBD1, it'll make a lot of the wiring more simplified.

Hve you done it before or know some one who has. I'm building what I have because I don't want to go out and spend a ridiculous a mount of money on a b,h, or k series motor not knowing what the engine has been through. Another thing is what ecu should I run? Can I use the one in my car now without chipping it or whatever.

No, if you want to "chip" it you'll need an OBD1 ECU, most people run a P28 with a base map ROM and then have their car tuned according to their setup. It'll make life a lot easier going OBD1 with wiring and tuning. But check your local emissions testing because if they use the scanner hookup the OBD1 ECU won't pass and communicate with the machine.

So what exactly do I need for the full swap for it to be obd1. This is so confusing because the a6 block is coming from a obd0 car and the y8 head obd2 car and I have a obd2 car so where does obd1 coming from.

The ECU is what truly makes it OBD0, 1, 2. You'll need an ECU jumper harness (You didn't list what year your car is but 96-98 you'll need OBD2A to OBD1, 99-00 you'll need OBD2b to OBD1) and an OBD1 ECU (P28, P06 converted to VTEC, etc). Once you do that you can use any sensors from the original engine but the OBD1 ECU won't look for some sensors which make wiring easier (EVAP purge, 2nd O2, CKF, etc).

I have a 97. So get the jumper harness, any obd1 ecu and run the stock y7 harness.
