What are your power goals? What is your price range? Hard to answer a vague question.....You can do anything to a D16 as you can do to a 400 big block. Are you single or dual cam?

For starters you could put headers, exhaust, and intake on to give you a little somthing. The d series engines just like any other Honda engine can make a lot of power it all just depends how deep your pockets are. I had a stock 91 crx si boosted on 6 psi and was making close to 200 hp for less than 800 dollars.

Shallow pockets. Lol. Single cam. And I don't have any dead set power goals. I got a good header. And idk if I'll have te money for boost just yet. And I searched, a lot. I'm a big fan of hearing advice from others.

What motor? You could throw a lightweight flywheel in, buy a Si tranny, put your header on, make a cheap intake, and put a 2" catback on it. Find some PM7 or PM6 pistons.

To be god honest idk what exact d16 it is. Bc I'm in a debate between buying a z6 or saving $ and buy the non vtec motor. It's going to be replacing my d16a6 in my ef hatch Si. It's my dd so I have to have something that can be built then put in without much down time. So have a Si trans. And I already have a high flow 2" cat.

a Y8 EX trans would be better if you plan on putting alot of power in it, it has steel shift forks instead of aluminum, the car is already so light you might as well do yourself a favor and only replace the tranny once

idk what your hp goals are though

i have a d16z6 in a 91 crx with i h e and zex 59300 cam, with the cam gear and a very basic tune that im trying to improve, im already pretty fast for what it is
I've beaten every non-boosted civic ive raced so far and im just as fast as my friend's rx8 project

if you want something easy and fun, try to find a used jackson racing supercharger, with the jr tuning you can run 8psi on stock internals, my buddy has it as his dd like this for over a year now

All my experiences aside, the d16z6 is a great motor, you can easily run 200+ hp on stock internals of a daily driver. Just get the motor in and then take your time preparing for boost IMO

I'm on a very tight budget. I really want the z6 but idk if my wallet will let me buy it. That's why I was asking about the stock non v d16.

I had a b18a1 in my crx. I'm wanting to try out single cam for a bit. I'm willing to pay, it will just take me longer to build. And idk how much longer my 91 a6 will last. The precious owner wasn't to pleasant. If you know what i mean.

Honestly...

If you want to build power on a SOHC it's going to cost some money. Instead of buying a intake, header and things like that. You should SAVE your money and build a turbo...the reason you shouldnt buy an intake and header is because you wont be using them for your turbo application anyways. Craigslist ALWAYS has great deals on random things where you can piece stuff together and build a turbo kit for a great price. I see things all the time.

The biggest thing is having patience and spending money on things you actually need.

if you cant afford a z6 how will you afford a 'cheaper' non-vtec D and do some stuff to it? just get a z6 or y8 and save some cash in the long run...

i have a D15B7 in my car with a header on it and i'm going to be swapping in a D16Z6 with an SI tranny ( i just picked up both for $100) the deals are out there just be patient.. the more time you spend waiting the more time you spend SAVING! then you have the cash in hand to HOP on a deal when it shows up and don't have to beg the guy to hold it until friday when you get paid..

i plan on boosting my car too! as i have a few bits from my buddies old D16Y7 turbo civic, i'm also working on a budget so whatever cheap junkyard options i find along the way i will share all my info with you!
