Default My tach is jumping and sputters when accelerating

Whats good HT,

I'm new to this site and am having some issues with my teggy. Like title says, my Tach is jumping wildly and when I try to accelerate my car starts sputtering. I've been told I need a new ignitor for my distributor. Any one know if this would be the cause or may have any other suggestion? The motor is a Ls-v with type-r piston, B16 head with port flow dual valve springs and B16 cams. Figured I'd mention this in case it helps with finding the problem.

Sorry in advance if this should be posted in the technical help section.

the ignition control module (ignitor) sends a signal to your tachometer. When the ICM is on its way out it can cause the tachometer to jump around wildy and the motor to lose power and die. It is very likely replacing the ICM in your distributor will fix your problem.

I second this motion. Its prob shorting or burnt to hell. If you have a good Advanced Auto Parts near you. You may be able to test it on a Machine they have there. Just when testing it go through the book they provide due to the fact that in my experience not many people that work there know how to use the machine correctly. You can also get the part from Advanced Auto Parts for not to much $96.69 to be exact and its a good brand too with a warranty. Here is the link. They ship to home too.

Your ECT ground can also cause this problem. Experienced it first hand

ive had this happen to me it was the distributor igniter that was bad. than the dammn coil went bad. bought a new alt and it went away. cheap fix unless u wana try and buy a new main relay. i bought one for mine and it turned out to be the dist. going bad. does it do it all the time or only wen its hot outside? if its hot outside the main relay over time will acutally start to short from soo much rattling. the points start going bad so the connections between the points are not that great. the ignitre might be the problem although on the teggys the igniters are mostly problem free. however if its always happening i would give the dist a try first. on mine the car would turn off out of nowhere as well since the igniter was not working properly. if its sputtering though it might be that the engine is not getting enough spark or fuel. i doubt its ur fuel since obviously your car starts the pump is working. so only problems would be the distributor or a faulty connection in the dist. might as well buy a new one bro they are cheap compared to you buying the coil, the igniter seperate. also check your main relay though see how it is. its right in front of your knees when you are in the seat. take off the metal protector and the plastic piece that goes there. and you will the a huge relay looking thing. brown or black in color. cannot miss it. take off the cover and see how the points are looking. good point would be tall and pointy, bad point would be round and flat
