type r swap??????
Euro R is an H22.... you seem to already have the average cost for the motor down.
We need more info on your car - are you an auto or 5spd? Base or SH? located in the states? if so - does your state require obd2 testing?
You will more than likely just end up going obd1 and a stand alone to tune it - or go through the trouble of sourcing the proper ecu and stay obd2. If i'm not mistaken, either way you will not pass an obd2 plug in test if you are required to by your inspection station (depending on where you're located)
will you be getting the trans with the motor or use your current trans?
Depending on your model, you'll need one of the axles changed. Also may need a different harness based on your model.
Just do a little research on others that have done the swap and you'll find out what else you will need/ issues you may run across.

You're going to pay so much money to someone to swap the engines and make it work.
Anyone who wants to modify cars should be able to work on them or they're dabbling with the wrong hobby, unless you just have a near limitless amount of money to spend.

The only way to NOT spend an extra $2k is to buy your own $200 engine lift, a set of wheel ramps, jack-stands, a GOOD jack (not a walmart cheapy. you need 1 with some LIFFFT) and be ready to buy extra tools as needed....eventually you end up well prepared to do almost any work yourself. Be warned, people will steal your stuff..lock it up and chain it down if you can..lol
All this will usually cost you less than the labor cost of paying a shop to do a simple "same-engine-replacement" (no modification necessary) swap.
i have a 98 base,5spd...and I will most likely do the work myself, but are ecu systems easy to find and buy...nd i kno a guy who can can get me the inspection if neccesary. but someone mention an axle change???i kno the swap will require more than jus a tranny and motor swap but how much else will need to be modified??

Why is everyone talking about tuning ECUs? Why don't you just use the stock Euro R ECU? Does it not plug in or something?

Different emission testings usually give different signals, i know for a fact that jdm obd2 ecu's don't register and would only assume Euro-R would have an issue as well.
- But i'm not 100%, which is why I said depending on the state and emissions it would be an issue.
As for tuning, it's not necessary - but the car would sure run better if it's stuck with an obd1 ecu on that specific motor. Whichever would be easiest to come across (that or the euro-R ecu) if inspection is not an issue. Just some options that's all.

Rather than just listing everything out here, i'll send you a pm as to where you can get all the info

obd2 ecu's for other countries don't typically register with the obd2 testing computers here in the states.

Also, JDM ECUs do register under OBD2 scanners since OBD2 is a global system. The problem is that the ECUs aren't programmed to control a bunch of the emissions systems that the US cars are.
Well...tunable Honda ECUs don't typically pass OBD2 emissions either. You can just use the JDM ECU and then swap in a USDM ECU for emissions. I did that on my ITR swapped civic Si.

oh I know lol - was just giving options since I don't know what's easier for OP to get his hands on. Rather not say there's 1 solid way and no other option, when there really is.
The ECU's register with scanners - but the inspection station can't get the proper readings through their systems in order to pass the vehicle because of the difference in emissions. So it's not going to register anything someone here in the states would need for an obd2 plugin via inspection.
